Working on an interesting challenge for a client. The person needs to get a new Mac, they are home users, mostly using the machine for photos/photo editing, email, and Office. The latest, greatest (and most expensive) is not needed to fit their use. Stay tuned and I will tell you what solution we find and how much money we save the client.

Where is your digital stuff, part 2. How often am I comfortable with backing up, taking in to consideration need to backup vs. hassle. For most of you consider this: thumb drives and even hard drives. If you need more space hard drives are pretty cheap and big enough unless you have a lot of important data. I have a saying, "do not buy a truck and then find out how big your load is, figure out what you need to haul THEN buy a truck", in other words figure how much you need to back up then buy a drive. If you have important client files, consider a cloud backup.

Where is your digital stuff? If it is ONLY on your computer you are in a pretty perilous place. Stuff breaks, things happen, hard drives crash, someone steals it. Ideally you should have at least one regular backup. Better yet one onsite and one offsite backup. Everyone has different degrees of need and importance of data but if it is important data to you, get a plan and stick to it. Think about it.

Friends, keep your laptop cool. Don't leave it on and put it on upholstered furniture or on the bed. Keeping it well ventilated will extend the life of your hardware.
