A new federal Pell pathway is opening for short-term workforce training programs — starting July 1, 2026.

For accredited institutions offering programs in nursing, welding, CDL licensing, electrical, HVAC, and dozens of other trades, this creates a federal financial aid pathway that has not previously existed at this scale. Programs with as little as eight weeks of instruction can now qualify — if they're approved and meet all federal and state requirements.

The requirements are real: completion rates, placement rates, annual outcome reporting to the state, and a multi-stage approval process that works differently depending on where you operate.
