Community colleges have become a real target for organized financial aid fraud. It's bigger than any one state.

Federal investigators are now calling it organized financial crime: documented in at least eight states, $350 million identified in organized fraud over the past five years, and actual federal prosecutions behind it.

The harder question institutions are working through isn't just "how do we catch this." It's how to catch it without turning away the real, non-traditional students these colleges exist to serve.

We wrote about the full pattern here: 🔗

Imagine a fraudster submitting a high-quality counterfeit ID through your onboarding process.

Your system scans it. Extracts the name, date of birth, and document number. Everything looks right.

And the fraud goes through — because reading a document and trusting it are not the same thing.

Document scanning reads the data on a document. Identity verification checks whether the document itself is genuine, unaltered, and belongs to the person presenting it.

Scanning is the easy part to build. Verification is the part that actually stops fraud.

Workforce Pell is live — but whether your school can participate right now depends heavily on which state you're in.

States are building their own approval processes, and they're taking very different approaches. Some have published approved program lists and closed their application windows already. Others are still finalizing their frameworks. A few are adding student protections that go beyond what federal law requires.

Our full breakdown of what Workforce Pell actually requires — and why state implementation varies — is linked below. 👇

The new Workforce Pell pathway creates opportunities for short-term workforce programs, but it also introduces new approval processes, reporting obligations, and outcome requirements. This guide explains the federal framework, how states are approaching implementation, and what institutions should p...

A new federal Pell pathway is opening for short-term workforce training programs — starting July 1, 2026.

For accredited institutions offering programs in nursing, welding, CDL licensing, electrical, HVAC, and dozens of other trades, this creates a federal financial aid pathway that has not previously existed at this scale. Programs with as little as eight weeks of instruction can now qualify — if they're approved and meet all federal and state requirements.

The requirements are real: completion rates, placement rates, annual outcome reporting to the state, and a multi-stage approval process that works differently depending on where you operate.

We put together a plain-language breakdown of what schools need to know, including the four implementation archetypes emerging as states build their approval processes.

Here's a question worth asking: If a student asked you right now who accessed their transcript in the last year, could you give them a complete answer?

For most schools, it's harder than it sounds.

Student records flow through lots of places—transcript requests, credential evaluations, job verifications, licensing boards. And institutions need to know and track all of it.

That's what a disclosure ledger does. It creates a clear, searchable record of who accessed student records, when, and why.

We just published a guide breaking down what this looks like and why it matters.

FERPA turned 50 in 2024. The core law hasn't changed, but compliance looks nothing like it did in 1974—or even five years ago.

Back then, it meant locked filing cabinets and paper consent forms. Today, student records move through digital portals, cloud platforms, and third-party vendors—every handoff a potential disclosure event.

The institutions that struggle aren't ignoring FERPA. They're treating it as a legal checkbox rather than an operational responsibility.

Modern compliance requires visibility, auditability, control, and traceability. If your systems aren't supporting these four things, you're probably flying blind.

We've published a practical guide for registrars and compliance teams breaking down what FERPA actually protects, how digital workflows change the compliance picture, and what modern records infrastructure needs to support. Plus answers to 10 common FERPA questions you're probably asking.

What if curriculum, enrollment, transcripts, and reporting all worked together from the start?

No duplicate entry.
No rebuilding records.
No disconnected systems.

That’s what AcademicBridge was built to solve.

More coming soon.

Many schools are still managing curriculum, enrollment, transcripts, and reporting across separate systems.

That usually means:
• Duplicate work
• Manual processes
• Data inconsistencies
• Constant back-and-forth between systems

Academic operations shouldn’t depend on disconnected spreadsheets and workarounds.

There’s a better way to connect it all.
