I'm Vivian, and I'm obsessed with fresh brewed coffee, those comfy striped tees that you can wear for days, breakfast at all times of the day, my cute husband (Caleb) and of course, hand lettering and floral drawings! Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved art. I am passionate about creativity, and have been creating art in many mediums for 7+ years. My love for beautiful calligraphy began w

hen I would gift my friends and family with a few hand lettered words. I saw how a simple little card could turn someone's day around completely, and how an inspirational quote could help them get fired up to pursue their dreams. I love how calligraphy can spread positivity and be a beautiful reminder of something we believe in. In 2016, I decided to start my own Etsy shop, a dream of my own that I'd had for years. I choose make 100% hand-lettered art that isn't digitally reproduced or altered because I believe every person deserves something special. In my creative process, I use traditional calligraphy dip-pens, watercolor, and paintbrushes to produce the work in my shop. I love meeting new people, and I'd love to make some special for you! There is nothing more beautiful than what nature can create.

I saw Lake Michigan for the first time in person and was completely floored by its beauty. We were probably kinda crazy for wanting to go to the beach in February because it was a blustery winter day.
⠀⠀
But, we bundled up and slipped and slid our way on the icy rocks out to the lake! The bright, open spaces of this image has been coming out in some of my current design work too. Inspired by nature.

This little corner of our home houses my grandma’s hats.

I have so many vivid memories of her enjoying the sunshine with one of these wide brims on her head. When she lived with our family, we’d take her with us to the beach, parks, and everywhere in between.

I can still remember the way she’d sit with her eyes closed, wind gently sweeping through her hair. Such a picture of relaxation and peace.

I love having these here as a little reminder every day!

Collaboration and community always amazes me. How people who are incredibly talented pool their strengths together and make actual magic happen.

For this shoot I wanted to step out of the norm for menu design. I tried so many iterations of this pretty vellum overlay, and I finally landed on this design, which feels dynamic and interactive. It incorporates clean modern text with super organic botanical illustration. I totally wish you could see it in person!

We just got these images back from a shoot, and my jaw is on the floor right now! Thank you for letting me be a part of this!

What do you do to stay focused working from home? Background music? Candle? Airplane mode?

This might be weird, but I don’t usually listen to music when I’m working by myself at home. It’s just me, so its super quiet in the house, but I actually like it that way! Space to think.

But I’ve heard classical music can help you focus better, so maybe I should try it. Thoughts?

One thing I do to stay focused though is giving myself specific tasks for each day. I might have a long to do list, but if I have it broken down by day, it’s much more manageable in my head!

And, a big cup of coffee usually never hurts! 😂

One time I auditioned for a musical. It was the scariest thing I’d done up until that point. I didn’t make the cut but I learned something about myself.

I learned that I can’t really sing or dance, and I hate being in front of a crowd (probably not going to audition for any other musicals 😂)
⠀⠀
I learned what it felt like to set a goal and push myself. And how much of a shell I have and how to come out of it more. I had a little taste of rejection (we can learn so much from failures!)

Have you ever auditioned for a play? Or pushed yourself out of your comfort zone in another way? Even when things doesn’t end up how you expect, the learning doesn’t stop.

Sometimes (most times) growth is painful, embarrassing and messy, but even so, don’t shy away from it.

Earthy. Feminine. Wise. Calming.

The idea behind this refreshing and simple design is to evoke a feeling of calming openness. The logo sits in its own little home of structure and safety–the way Holistic Birth & Fertility helps women feel safe and strong throughout pregnancy or home birth. We knew we wanted to include references to water and florals to communicate feminine resilience and radiance in birth, so we included little details in the letterforms.

I’m excited to watch as Jessamyn elevates her business and is able to serve more women with her beautiful, comprehensive approach to birth and fertility. I teamed up with Cultura Brand Studio for this project, and I just love how it turned out! @ Grand Rapids, Michigan

The Story Behind the Shop

I'm Vivian Kammel, a wedding calligrapher and watercolor artist based in Cleveland, Ohio.

I help women find joy in the tangible, celebrate their unique love story and send better mail.

Let’s face it–mail is usually pretty boring. Bills, catalogs, and ads are nothing to write home about…literally.

What would it be like if the mail we sent was thoughtful and thrilling to receive? And not just exciting in an “I’m expecting an amazon package” kind of way, but in a way that genuinely surprises and delights.
