Most business owners apply serious scrutiny to their financial oversight. They want independent auditors, clear reporting lines, and advisors who are not compensated based on the decisions they recommend.
Then they hand their entire IT strategy to the same vendor managing their infrastructure and call it streamlined.
The principle of separation of duties is not complicated. The people executing work should not be the same people evaluating and directing that work. It applies in finance. It applies in operations. And it applies in IT.
If your technology strategy is being set by someone with a financial interest in the outcome, that is worth a second look.
