For This weeks Behind the Counter we’re talking phone viruses: Those “Cleaner” Apps Might Be Doing More Harm Than Good

One thing we’ve been seeing a lot lately: customers coming in with phones that suddenly start acting strange. Apps switching on their own, icons changing, or menus looking totally different — and most of the time, the issue isn’t the phone itself.

It’s these so-called “cleaner” apps that get recommended through ads or pop-ups. They promise to speed things up or save battery life, but most of them just clog up your phone with ads, take over your home screen, or make it harder to remove other apps.

Some even pretend to be system updates or antivirus tools.

If your phone has been getting slower, or it just feels like something isn’t right after downloading one of those apps, this might be why.
