HELLO OCTOBER!

It's officially spooky season and this month we’re heading into the woods with Missouri’s Treefolk!

LOCH NESS MONSTER

Finishing out this year’s cryptids with one of the most famous of them all, the Loch Ness Monster!

Affectionately known as Nessie, this mysterious creature is said to live in Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. Stories of strange creatures in the area go back centuries, while modern sightings often describe a large aquatic animal with a long neck and humps rising above the water.

One of my favorite mysteries of all time. I totally believe this gal still slumbers in that murky loch.

And that wraps up Cryptids Vol. 3!

PUKWUDGIE

Our fourth cryptid of September is the Pukwudgie!

The Pukwudgie is a small supernatural being found in Wampanoag and other Algonquian traditions of the northeastern United States. Descriptions vary, but they are often portrayed as small human-like beings associated with the wilderness. Depending on the story, they can be troublesome, dangerous, or simply best left alone.

Now it's time for a little goblin styled creature, sure to create all the mischief.

BEAST OF BRAY ROAD

Halfway through this year’s cryptids is the Beast of Bray Road!

This wolf-like creature comes from Wisconsin folklore, where sightings became especially well known around Bray Road near Elkhorn. Witnesses have described a large, hairy creature resembling a wolf or werewolf, sometimes walking upright on two legs.

We needed some werewolf vibes added to my list, and here he is!

TAILYPO

Next up for September is Tailypo!

Tailypo comes from Appalachian folklore and is the creature at the center of a wonderfully creepy campfire tale. In the story, a strange animal loses its tail to a hunter and returns during the night looking for its missing “tailypo.”

I wanted my version to have a fox like feel but an extra fabulous tail!

SNALLYGASTER

Kicking off this year’s cryptids with the Snallygaster!

The Snallygaster comes from the folklore of Maryland. Usually described as a bizarre flying monster, it has been depicted with some combination of wings, claws, tentacles, a beak, and a single eye. Stories about the creature became especially popular in Maryland newspapers during the early 1900s.

I added a bit of Bald Eagle flair and really dialed in the weird!
