Every mission has a destination. Every journey deserves a partner.

At NFP Partners, we know nonprofits face complex financial challenges while working to make a difference in the world. Our role is to help bring clarity, confidence, and direction to that journeyโ€”so nonprofit leaders can stay focused on what matters most: their mission.
Thatโ€™s why weโ€™re proud to introduce Nora the Navigator! ๐Ÿงญ

Nora is more than a new face for our brand. She represents our commitment to walking alongside nonprofits, navigating challenges together, and helping organizations become stronger financial managers.

Because when nonprofits are stronger, their impact can go even further. One world. Countless missions. One trusted partner along the way.

Partners in Purpose. Navigators of Impact. ๐ŸŒŽ

NEW FACE. SAME MISSION. Meet Nora the Navigator, the newest member of the NFP Partners team! ๐Ÿงญ

Since 2008, weโ€™ve partnered with nonprofits to help navigate the financial challenges that come with doing meaningful work. While every nonprofit has its own mission and destination, no organization should have to navigate the journey alone.

Nora represents what has always been at the heart of NFP Partners: partnership, guidance, and a shared commitment to impact.
Youโ€™ll start seeing Nora across our events, resources, and communications as she helps us tell the story of what partnership looks like in action.

Weโ€™re excited for you to meet her and discover the story behind how she came to be!

Partners in Purpose. Navigators of Impact.

"We only fund 10% indirect." If you've heard that from a funder, this term is worth understanding well.

Your indirect cost rate is the percentage you apply to recover shared costs โ€” finance, HR, IT, rent, insurance โ€” that support programs without being directly traceable to any one of them.

Here's what many nonprofits don't realize: if you receive federal funding, you may be entitled to use the de minimis rate allowed under the federal Uniform Guidance rather than negotiating your own โ€” and that rate was raised in the 2024 revision.

Accepting an artificially low indirect rate doesn't make you efficient. It makes your programs quietly subsidized by your unrestricted funds.

Comment "GUIDE" if you want help calculating your real rate.

At NFP Partners, we believe accounting is about more than numbers. It's about empowering organizations, strengthening financial management, and helping nonprofits focus on the missions that matter most.

So, we asked ourselves: What better way to represent our commitment to guidance, innovation, and partnership? We found our answer. You will too on October 15th. Stay tuned for the big reveal!

Every nonprofit budget has a line in it that's really a wish.

That's not a character flaw โ€” it's how mission-driven budgeting works. The risk is when committed revenue and aspirational revenue sit in the same column, in the same font, looking equally real.

Try this instead. Tier every revenue line: committed (signed or awarded), likely (renewed three or more years running), aspirational (not yet asked).

Then ask the uncomfortable question โ€” can your core programs operate on committed revenue alone? If not, you don't have a budget problem yet. You have a contingency plan to write.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Comment "REVENUE" for help with your budget.

If your financial reports are hard to read, the problem usually isn't your accountant. It's your chart of accounts.

Your chart of accounts is the list of every account your organization uses to categorize transactions. It's the skeleton underneath every report you produce โ€” and if it's built wrong, no amount of careful bookkeeping will make your statements useful.

The two most common problems: too many accounts (300 lines nobody can summarize) or too few (everything lands in "Program Expense" and you can't answer basic questions).

October is the right month to fix this. Restructure it before the new fiscal year starts, not in the middle of one.

Save this post for your budget planning session.

Every nonprofit deserves a trusted partner.

Here's the most common budget season mistake we see: opening last year's budget file and adding 3%.

The problem is that last year's budget was a set of assumptions made 15 months ago. You now have nine months of actual data โ€” that's a much better starting point.

Reforecast first. Figure out where you'll truly land on December 31 at your current run rate. Then build 2027 from that.

It takes an extra week. It saves you a mid-year budget revision.

๐Ÿ’ฌ Comment "REFORECAST" for help with your budget.

Mission Money Monday ๐ŸŒŠ | The Journey Matters

A retreat isn't just about the destination.

It's the journey.

โœˆ๏ธ Getting there.
๐Ÿ˜‚ Laughing together.
๐Ÿ’ฌ Having conversations outside of the usual workday.
๐Ÿ“š Learning something new.
๐Ÿค Building relationships.
๐Ÿ’™ Remembering that we're part of something bigger than our individual roles.

Last year's Lighthouse by the Sea retreat gave us plenty of memoriesโ€”and plenty of reasons to look forward to doing it all again.

Now we're heading to our next adventure:

๐ŸŒŠ WAVES OF SUCCESS

One team.
One mission.
One more opportunity to learn, connect and grow.

Next stop: Waves of Success.
