We just finished the electrical restoration on this 1939 GE H500 known as the turbine. The restoration incuded replacing all the capacitors testing all the resistors and replacing any that were not within spec. All tubes were tested and any weak were replaced. After all of this, the set was aligned. It plays nicely and is selective. This one is for sale. $120.00. It can be purchased from acmetubesupply.com.

The recap is complete and all cleaned up on the RCA 66X9 catalin set. Not only were the caps very poorly installed, there were three that were not even on the correct tube socket terminals. Two resistors were out of value and the dial lights were the wrong voltage and instantly blew. The next post will be of the chassis back in the cabinet and the set playing.

Today we are starting restoration on this 1946 RCA 66X9 catalin radio. After pulling the chassis we discovered that someone had attempted a recap. The work is very poorly done. The original capacitors leads were clipped and new capacitors soldered to the original leads. This is not the correct way to recap a set. It causes cold solder joints at the tube sockets. Not to mention it just looks messy. We will make another post once this mess is all cleaned up.
