Happy Safety Tip Tuesday, Everyone!

Here is today’s online safety tip:

Warn your kids not to trust people they meet online, and tell them they should tell a trusted adult if someone makes them feel nervous, scared, or uncomfortable. Make sure they know that said trusted person can ALWAYS be trusted, despite what people online may tell them. Make sure they know they will not be in trouble if they talk about this kind of thing.

This is something that seems like common sense in today's world but given how serious it is, it definitely bears repeating.

Just as you'd be aware of your surroundings in real life, so must you be with your online presence. CONSTANT VIGILANCE!

Be sure to check out our page every Tuesday for more online safety tips!

Happy Fun Fact Monday, Everyone!

Did you know...

Doug Engelbart invented the first computer mouse in 1964. It was made of wood.

Happy Healthy Device Wednesday, Everyone!

Keep your device healthy:

Did you just get a new battery for your laptop? Do you want to have it last as long as possible? Here is some advice:

You want to plug your laptop in when you first get the battery and leave it charging until it says it is fully charged (of course you can use it while charging).

When it is fully charged, unplug it and don't plug it in again until you get the low battery warning. This will help prolong your battery life.

Finally, if you leave your laptop plugged in all the time, it will shorten the life of your battery due to the chemical degradation caused by sustained high-voltage states and the heat generated by prolonged charging. Modern laptops have protection against overcharging, but prolonged exposure to a fully charged state can still stress the battery cells, reducing their overall lifespan.

Be sure to check our page out every Wednesday for more tips on how to promote the health and longevity of your device!

Happy Safety Tip Tuesday, Everyone!

Here is today’s online safety tip:

If you are a victim of a security incident, the only guaranteed way to repair your computer is to erase and re-install the system. This doesn't mean use the recovery partition, either. You need to erase the ENTIRE drive and reload your operating system. It does mean you'll need to reinstall programs, printers, and reconnect to your wireless network.

That sounds like a lot, and it can be. However, it's not worth the risk of leaving a possible piece of malware on your drive that will only cause further problems down the road.

Just as you'd be aware of your surroundings in real life, so must you be with your online presence. CONSTANT VIGILANCE!

Be sure to check out our page every Tuesday for more online safety tips!
