A lot of you have been sharing that you tried building your website with AI and it just did not work out the way you hoped. Same thing as I shared on the podcast yesterday.

Honestly? I do not think AI is quite there yet for the building part.

But I do think it is a really powerful tool for auditing what you already have.

🚨 That’s why I’m hosting a workshop: How to Use AI to Audit Your Homepage and Finally Know What to Fix 🚨

It’s scheduled for Wednesday, June 3 at 11am and if you can’t make it live, when you register I’ll send you the replay and prompts.

Third-generation. Woman-owned. Built on stewardship and old-world service.

Teodora’s Boucherie in Cohasset has exceptional standards at the counter. We just made sure their website finally matched them.

We worked together to clarify their positioning, create a structured Butcher’s Guide for their educational content, and build a visitor journey that supports the in-person relationships that are at the heart of their business. Plus also an online shop feature that helps the team make online ordering a breeze.

When your standards are that high offline, your website should reflect the same thing.

Congratulations to the Teodora’s team. It was such a pleasure helping bring your story online.

Russell and Cassie first came to me a few years ago when they were launching their plumbing business. We built their first website together and I watched them grow.

When they decided to rebrand as IronPoint Plumbing, coming back to work together again felt like the most natural thing in the world.

A rebrand is more than a name change. It's a fresh start, and the website has to carry that new identity with confidence from day one.

For IronPoint, that meant building something that reflected the depth and specialization of their work, clear service pages, educational copy, and a structure that earns trust before the first call.

There is something really rewarding about watching a client step into a new chapter and having a website that finally matches who they have become. It's one of my favorite things to do. Congrats Cassie & Russell on your launch!

Leah reached out after listening to my podcast. She was launching her landscape design business in Seattle after nearly two decades in the industry.

She had the expertise. The GORGEOUS project photography. A fresh brand identity.

What she didn't have was a website. And she knew she couldn't launch without one.

Smart move.

I see so many people try to launch first and "add a website later." Then they're six months in, struggling to look professional, with nowhere to send potential clients who want to see their work.

We built Leah a site that showcases her Pacific Northwest expertise, displays her project photography beautifully, and integrates with HoneyBook so she can manage leads from day one.

Now she has a professional foundation to build on. When she networks, hands out business cards, or promotes her services, she has somewhere credible to send people.

No apologizing for an outdated site. No making excuses. Just a solid online presence that backs up her expertise.

Your website isn't something you add when you're "more established." It's what helps you get established in the first place.

Congrats, Leah. I'm so excited for you and your new biz!

After 20 years in business, Pool People had a problem most companies would love...too many inquiries!

But here's the catch—90% were from people they couldn't help.

Wrong pool type. Wrong service area. Wrong expectations about availability.

Eric was spending hours every week on the phone answering the same questions because his 2010 one-page website wasn't doing any of this screening work.

So we rebuilt it with strategy:

The Contact Page
→ Screens for pool type before submission
→ Verifies service area automatically
→ Sets expectations about waitlist upfront

SEO-Optimized Service Pages
→ Each service clearly lists what IS and ISN'T included
→ Local keywords for North Shore families searching

Values-Driven Copy
→ "We do what we say, when we say it"
→ Positioned waitlist as quality signal, not limitation
→ Made careers page prominent to attract team members

The result? The website now does the qualification work Eric used to do manually.

THIS is what strategic website design looks like for service businesses. And why I loooove what I do.

What's one thing your website could automate for you???

🎉 100 EPISODES! 🎉

I can hardly believe I'm typing this, but today marks the 100th episode of Website Design Made Simple!

This journey started when I was staring at an expensive camera I'd bought for YouTube, feeling completely uncomfortable with video. I didn't want to worry about perfect outfits, makeup, or lighting setups.

But I had so much website knowledge I wanted to share with small business owners like you.
So I put down that camera, grabbed a microphone from Amazon, and thought "What if I just talked instead?"

Best decision ever!

Over these 100 episodes, I've learned business lessons that apply directly to your website:

👉 Authenticity beats polish every time (people want the real you, not a perfect facade)

👉Consistency matters more than perfection (small, regular improvements win)

👉 What makes you different makes you valuable (stop hiding your unique approach!)

👉 It's better to attract 10 ideal clients than 100 wrong ones

👉Teaching your method actually makes you the expert
Community forms when you focus on serving others

The biggest lesson? The moment I stopped trying to be what I thought I should be and started being authentically me...that's when everything clicked.

Your website needs this same transformation. Stop trying to sound like everyone else and start embracing what makes you uniquely you!!

Thank you for being part of this incredible journey. Whether you've been here since episode 1 or just discovered the show, I'm so grateful for this amazing community! đź’•

Jody just launched her new brand + website, and I couldn't be more excited to share it with you!

Jody helps families plan stress-free Disney vacations with personalized itineraries and insider tips.

But here's what makes her special...she's all about empowering families to experience Disney magic in the way that works best for them, whether it's their first trip or an annual tradition.

When we started working together, Jody didn't have a brand or website. She knew she wanted to stand out in the crowded Disney planning space and fully embrace her personality and love for all things Disney. So that's exactly what we did.

We created an online home that reflects her genuine enthusiasm (yes, her car really is decorated with Star Wars!), her expertise, and her mission to make Disney planning feel exciting instead of overwhelming.

The site isn't just about booking trips. It's designed to be a resource hub where families can find blog posts, tips, and guidance to plan their perfect Disney vacation.

From the playful branding to the strategic layout, every element was designed to help Jody connect with families who want a Disney trip that fits their priorities, pace, and budget.

Congrats, Jody. I'm soooo excited for you!

I was reviewing old Instagram posts and found one that just said "Visit the Panda" — which inspired today's topic about website images.

Those beautiful professional brand photos you invested in? They might be sabotaging your website's performance.

Here's what I see constantly with small business owners who have gorgeous photography but don't understand web optimization.

The three image mistakes killing your SEO and conversions

âś… Massive file sizes: Professional photos straight from cameras can be 5+ megabytes. Ideal web size? Around 100 kilobytes. Visitors leave before your beautiful images even load.

âś… Terrible file names: IMG_1234.jpg tells Google nothing about your business. Use descriptive names like "relaxing-spa-massage-boston.jpg" to capture image search traffic.

âś… Empty alt text: Screen readers can't describe your images to visually impaired visitors, and Google can't understand your content for SEO.

The result? Slow websites, missed Google Image traffic, high bounce rates, and lost SEO opportunities.

The fix is simpler than you think. Use TinyPNG.com (that's where "Visit the Panda" came from), rename your files descriptively, and write helpful alt text.

Your professional photography should be an asset, not a liability. A weekend audit focusing on your homepage, about page, and services page can make a massive difference.

I've audited over 50 websites this year, and I can tell you exactly what separates the ones that make money from those that just look pretty.

It has nothing to do with the latest design trends, fancy features, or technical perfection.

Most business owners obsess over surface-level fixes like color palettes, typography choices, or copying competitor layouts. Others fall into technical rabbit holes, tweaking SEO keywords or styling forms to perfection.

But here's what actually converts visitors into paying clients

âś… A strategic customer journey.
This means mapping the emotional path your ideal client travels on your website. You're addressing their questions, concerns, and objections at every stage with intentionality.

âś… Stage 1: Do they instantly know they're in the right place?

âś… Stage 2: Are you building trust without overwhelming them?

âś… Stage 3: Can they see proof you've helped people like them?

âś… Stage 4: Do they understand your process and investment?

âś… Stage 5: Is taking action feel inevitable, not forced?

The psychology is simple. People make emotional decisions first, then justify with logic. Every page either moves them closer to "yes" or pushes them away.

Customer journeys are invisible, which is why smart business owners miss them. You can't copy this from templates because it's completely individualized to your business.
Pretty websites don't pay the bills. Strategic ones do.

Can I share something that's been on my mind?

There's so much talk about imposter syndrome in business, but what about the flip side?

What happens when you're SO qualified that your website actually intimidates people?

I just worked with Deb, who has a Master's in functional medicine, genetic testing certification, nutritional specialist credentials... the list goes on. She's launching Rebranding Aging for You to help people live younger, longer.

But here's the thing. When she explained her nine hallmarks of aging approach using terms like "cellular senescence," even I (who works with experts all the time) got a little overwhelmed.

Her challenge wasn't lacking knowledge. it was having TOO much and not knowing how to package it for real people with real problems.

We designed her website around three simple pathways instead of cramming all her expertise onto one confusing homepage. Now visitors can choose their own adventure based on where they are in their journey.

The lesson? Sometimes the smartest thing you can do is simplify. Your expertise should clarify how you help people, not complicate their decision to work with you.

Being brilliant is only valuable if people can understand and connect with that brilliance.
