Mary Balentine, the spouse of one of our founding members Glenn Balentine, passed away on 11/23/2023. Mary played a significant role in the production of the Central California Fast Pitch Softball Legacy Project’s video as her video was used for the background scenes. Her video, taken in 1963, is the only one in existence taken of a fast pitch softball game in the 1940’s 50’s, 60’s or 70’s. It is priceless. We are forever grateful for Mary’s very important contribution.

Please join us as we continue to "preserve and promote" the history of fastpitch softball.

June's lunch meeting displayed a rich history of the Dinuba Condors. President Daniel Ramirez gave an extensive presentation and new members had the opportunity to hear about one of the great teams in the Central Valley. Some of the current members present were part of that great team. Also, many of our members were showcasing our official caps. The presentation will be available soon on our website.

We are saddened by the loss of another one of our esteemed group members and friend Glenn L. Balentine
(DECEMBER 13, 1935 – MARCH 28, 2019).

I played softball with Glenn from 1963 to 1970 with the Dinuba Condors. I played left field and Glenn played center field. He was an outstanding player both as a fielder and a hitter. He made numerous tournament all star teams. He was always fun to play with, very competitive and always positive without criticizing anyone. We kept in touch and often shared memories of our softball days. He was instrumental in a group of former softball players getting together that eventually organized to become the Central California Fast Pitch Softball Legacy Project. The group is dedicated to keeping alive the history of fast pitch softball.

The best way I can summarize Glenn as a softball player is that he would be my center fielder in an all star team,

I personally will miss Glen very much and wish to extend my sincere condolences to his family.

The historical roots of softball take us back to Chicago, 1887. The sport would later spread to Central California beginning in the 1930s. These ballplayers were the beginning of a trend that would continue for decades.
