What is Point to Point?
Point to Point or P2P refers to the direct connection between two communication end points or nodes. Commonly you might find a P2P connection between antennas on a building. Lets say you want to wirelessly get internet to another building to piggy back off your main network. You might choose to set up two antennas pointing directly at each other , hence point to point. This allows a secure connection that gives the ability to broaden your networks reach. I hope this was informative for anyone that might want to consider something like this. If you have any questions about this subject feel free to ask us!

WHAT IS VoIP?
VoIP, otherwise known at Voice Over Internet Protocol allows people to make calls over your internet connection rather than the conventional phone line. VoIP has many advantages , some of these are being relatively cheaper, easy scalability , better audio quality, and much more. Obversely, a clear disadvantage to these systems is that if there's no power you most likely wont be able to make a call. Overall switching to a VoIP system rather than a traditional phone line is better for both small and large businesses.

Please turn your computer off!
Of course I don't mean right now or even five minutes from now. What I'm trying to say is turn your computer off at the end of the day, or if you know you're not gonna be working on it for multiple hours. Simply putting your computer to sleep has many conveniences like a fast start up and not having to reopen programs. However, when you put your computer to sleep, its technically still on. This causes you to continually draw power and put ware on your computer when you're not even using it. Turning your computer fully off at the end of the day allows it to perform self-tests, clear out the RAM, and alert you to software updates or minor errors. This overall is better for the life cycle of the device. Who would have guessed computers need some rest too?

Eye strain keeping you from working on your computer?
Using an app like f.lux could help you to work on your screen for longer. This program changes the warmth of your screen to match the time of day. For instance, if you're working late and you don't want to get blinded by your computer screen, you can set the tone of the screen or let it adaptively change on its own with the app. Here's a link to the website for a better example of how their product works.

Software to warm up your computer display at night, to match your indoor lighting.

Left is Right?
If you've recently installed Windows 11, or have just purchased a Windows 11 PC, then you have probably come across something a bit off putting. Remember how everything on your taskbar was and has always been on the left side? It's not possible anymore in Windows 11, everything is stuck in the middle for good, or is it... There is light at the end of the tunnel for those who just don't want to embrace this change.

Simply right click on the task bar and go to taskbar settings. After that you'll see an option labelled "Taskbar Behaviors", select it and you will see the light we've been speaking of. The "taskbar alignment" option is easy to change because there are only two options, Center or Left. After you play around with those settings, the final decision can be made if left is in fact right.

Why you should use a password manager:
Think about how you store your passwords. Do you store all of them in a book, sticky notes, or even in your head? Maybe you use the same password for everything and you think "its just easier that way". Today you will discover something to eliminate the clutter, forgetfulness, and security risk of physically storing passwords.

The big solution to all of this is using an application called a password manager. A great example of one is "Last Pass". This service allows you to store all of your usernames and password in a safe place. On top of all this they offer randomly generated passwords which is more secure than something you may have quickly put together like, "password #123". For people in a business environment this is a must use technology for documentation and for security.

Is your iPhone being backed up?
Here's how to check!
Step 1: Open up your settings app

Step 2: At the top search bar type in "iCloud" and select the first option(If you have already setup iCloud there should be statistics of what kind of data is backed up. If not, go ahead and proceed to step 3)

Step 3: Under the same iCloud menu you should see an option called iCloud Backup. Select that

Step 4: Turn on the toggle for "Back Up This iPhone"(We also recommend clicking "Back Up Now")

After your device is backed up you should be able to see all data pertaining to your device categorized in the iCloud interface. I hope this was helpful and if you have any questions feel free to comment down below!

Did you know that networking professionals have different terminology for the parts in a network? We use terms like Layer 1 and Layer 2 to identify the different segments of a network. It makes it easy to troubleshoot and setup different things. For example, Layer 1 which is the Physical layer, consists of voltages, cable specifications, hubs, repeaters, and network adapters. If this interests you I encourage you to look at CompTIA's website in the like below for more information. https://www.comptia.org/blog/open-systems-interconnection-reference-model

Have you ever wanted to see all your network information easily in one place? Well we have a solution for you! If you're using a windows PC open up "command prompt". Easiest way to find this is typing it in the windows search bar. Once you have that opened, type in the command " ipconfig /all ". This will bring up information about your current device, network adapters and even give you your MAC and IP address. If you wanted to try this and got stuck, comment below and we'll give you some advice.

What is an IP address ?
Internet Protocol (IP) is a set of numbers that allows devices to be identified easily on a network. It's easy to think of it as a street address. You know there is a house you want to get to, but without the address you don't know where it is. Here is an example of what an IP address might look like (192.168.10.12). Hopefully this helps for when your IT guy starts talking to you about these random numbers.

You should use CAT6!
What is CAT6 though? CAT6 is a type of data cable which beats out its predecessor CAT5e in many ways. The main reason its better than CAT5e is due to its ability to have higher data speeds. CAT6 is able to put out 10GbE whereas CAT5e tops out around 1000Mbps. This is why we usually recommend using CAT6 whenever we run new data cables for you. Even if your current device doesn't require those speeds yet , its a good way of futureproofing your needs.
