SEO/GEO tip: prune the content nobody reads. Here's a step-by-step guide:
1. GA4. Go to Reports > Engagement > Pages and screens and set the range to at least 12 months so seasonal pages don't get cut by mistake. Export page path, views and key events for every page. The same page can show up as several rows (trailing slash vs. no slash, capitalization), and you need all of them to see the correct numbers.
2. Google Search Console. Performance > Search results > Pages tab, set to the full 16 months. Export clicks and impressions. The UI export caps at 1,000 rows, so if you have a big site then pull the data through Looker Studio or the API.
3. Bing Webmaster Tools. Same export from Search Performance, filtered to pages.
4. Your sitemap and a crawl. Anything in the sitemap that never shows up in GA4 or GSC probably had zero visits. Sitemaps can miss pages too, so run a crawl in Screaming Frog or a similar tool and include that list.
5. Backlinks. Export referring domains by URL from Ahrefs, Semrush, or whatever backlink tool you use. Redirect pages that have no traffic but valuable links instead of deleting them.
Then give it all to Claude with the attached prompt.
Before anything goes live:
1. Crawl the final list in Screaming Frog list mode to confirm current status codes.
2. Only redirect to a page on the same topic. Mass redirects to the homepage tend to get treated as soft 404s, so you lose the value anyway.
3. Update internal links and the sitemap so the site isn't linking to redirects or removed pages.
4. Hand the Redirect Map tab to your developer, then watch the Google Search Console Page indexing report for the next few weeks.
If your site has years of outdated blog posts and old pages with no traffic, cleaning them out keeps search engines and AIs focused on pages that are current and accurate.
