This is the work we do. Focus is a healthcare-exclusive Unified Partner across Managed IT, Managed Security, Managed Data and AI Enablement. Healthcare is the only field we work in, and it has been for 20+ years. We've handled the data behind 2,000+ EHR conversions for 1,500+ healthcare organizations, which means we spend our days inside exactly the systems an AI tool would touch: EHRs, billing and practice-management platforms, and the data that moves between them.

Governing what gets built from that data, validating it, and controlling who and what can reach it isn't a new discipline for us. It's the daily work of running a healthcare organization's IT, security, and data. And because we're built around healthcare, protecting patient data is the baseline we operate from, not something added on at the end.

By the time you go live on a new EHR, it feels like the hard part is behind you. The demos, the contract, the training, the go-live date you circled months ago: done. But the days right after go-live are when something quietly important is true about your practice, and most people never stop to notice it.

Your data has just been touched, moved, and reorganized more than it will be for years. That makes this the natural moment to get it ready for what comes next, instead of treating that as a separate project you get to later.

If AI is anywhere on your radar, this is where readiness starts. Not with the tool you pick, but with the data it would be reading. The rest of this walks through what that means and why the timing works in your favor right now.

An AI readiness assessment evaluates whether your organization has the data infrastructure, security posture, governance framework, and operational maturity to adopt AI tools effectively and compliantly. In healthcare, that assessment carries additional weight because of the regulatory environment, the sensitivity of the data, and the operational complexity of clinical workflows.
That's the formal definition. The more practical one is this: AI readiness is a measure of whether the boring foundational work has been done. Not whether you've bought an AI tool. Not whether someone on your team has tried ChatGPT. Whether the data your practice generates is governed, structured, and accessible. Whether your security environment can handle the requirements AI introduces. Whether your IT infrastructure was built with enough architectural intent that adding new capabilities doesn't require starting over. And whether someone in your organization actually owns the strategic view across all of it.

When you’ve done something 2,000 times, the thing that changes most isn’t how you do the work. It’s how well you can predict what’s coming.

We’ve completed more than 2,000 data conversions across over 100 EHR systems in the last five years. We’ve never missed a go-live. After that many conversions, you start to see which practices are going to have a smooth transition and which ones are headed for a stressful one, often before the first file gets moved.

A smooth conversion means your team stays focused on patient care instead of troubleshooting data issues. Your go-live happens on schedule. Your billing team isn’t scrambling because nobody told them about the wind-down.

Your leadership isn’t fielding calls from frustrated providers who can’t find their historical notes. A stressful one looks like the opposite: delayed timelines, confused staff, billing disruptions, and a loss of confidence in the new system before it even has a chance to prove itself.

The difference between those two outcomes almost always traces back to one thing: how well the expectations were set before the process started.

Meet the team Friday!

Meet Trip Pognant, VP of Application Development. Trip's focus is ensuring our clients are operationalizing the products and services we deliver so they can realize the value they imagined at the start of their data journey.

When Trip is not behind his desk, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife and kids. Trip wears a lot of hats, and some of those forms lately has been coaching his kids athletic teams, teaching them to fish or taking them camping. One cool fact about Trip is he and his family run a little family homestead; raising chickens, pigs and sheep! Trip is also an avid UGA and Bracves fan.

Go-live isn’t the finish line. It’s the start of a 90-day window where your clinical data is still converting, your billing team is running two systems, and the person at your EHR vendor who guided your implementation is about to hand you off to someone new. On top of that, the IT, security, and reporting questions that nobody raised during the sales process are going to start surfacing. Here’s what to expect and when.

Go-live day feels like the end of a long process. You’ve been through demos, contract negotiations, implementation, training, and now the switch is done. Your team is in the new system.

But for the next 90 days, there’s a lot happening underneath that most practices don’t see coming. And the reason it catches people off guard is that nobody walks them through what the EHR post-go-live period looks like before they get there.

Meet the team Friday!
Meet Maddie!
Maddie started as a delivery coordinator on the data conversions team. She has since expanded her role there to include some business/data analyst work. Maddie also transitioned to a delivery coordinator on the insights team, so she splits her time between conversions and insights.
Maddie has been at Focus for over 2 years. When Maddie isn't keeping teams on track, she likes to go on runs with her 2 dogs, watch movies or the Brewers or the Bucks, read, crochet, and sew!

If you’re getting ready to switch to a new EHR system, you’ve probably got a detailed EHR implementation plan from your vendor. They’re handling the training, the system configuration, and the technical setup to get your team ready for go-live, the day you officially switch from your old system to the new one.

But there’s a separate set of things that need to be in place before that day, and most of them aren’t part of the vendor’s plan. They’re on the data conversion side, and they’re the things that tend to surface as surprises during or after the switch because nobody flagged them for you ahead of time.
