Over the past months, we’ve been hearing the same story from many of our Small Bytes family:
“My grandchild is trying to help me… but they move too fast!”
“I want to learn, but I need it broken down step by step.”
“I just need someone—or something—to slow down with me.”
So today, we’re sharing a story inspired directly by YOU…
I sat there in my living room, holding my phone like it might just jump up and do something on its own. Now don’t get me wrong—I wanted to learn. I just didn’t want to feel like I was in a race I didn’t sign up for.
My grandson Jayden plopped down next to me, full of energy.
“Grandma, I’m gonna show you how to video call your church friends,” he said.
Now, before I could even get comfortable, he started talking—fast.
“Just open the app, go to settings, connect your account, sync contacts, enable permissions, and hit join—boom, done.”
“Boom what now?” I asked.
He just smiled like he’d said the simplest thing in the world.
“It’s easy, Grandma. Just do what I said.”
I leaned back, took a deep breath, and said, “Baby… the only thing ‘booming’ around here is my patience. Slow. Down.”
And that’s when I remembered something I heard about—something called ChatGPT. And not just that—there were others too, like Perplexity AI, Claude, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant.
I picked up my phone and spoke nice and clear, like I was talking to a patient friend.
“Explain how to join a video call on my phone like I’m brand new to technology. Give me simple steps and go slow.”
And just like that… it answered me.
“Now THIS,” I said, “is what I’m talking about!”
Jayden looked over at me, surprised.
“Wait… what did you do?”
“I got me a teacher who don’t rush me.” And then—wouldn’t you know it—the phone rang, and suddenly there was Ms. Williams smiling right back at me on the screen.
“Oh! Look at that!” I said, clapping my hands. “I’m on video!”
I turned to Jayden with a grin.
“Next lesson, baby…” I said, pointing at him, “…YOU gonna learn how to slow down.”
