My father started his career as a political cartoonist in NYC. I wish I was mature enough before he passed to had understood and appreciated the complexity and gravity of it all.
The Daily Heller: Cartoonist Walks After WaPo Kills Bezos Satire š¤”
The Washington Post would not have dared kill a piece by its courageous political cartoonist Herbert Block, known to the world as Herblockāand he would not have accepted such behavior if they had. As it happens, Pulitzer Prizeāwinning Post cartoonist Ann Telnaes is cut from the same cloth.
Last week, editorial page editor David Shipley rejected Telnaesā cartoon that lampooned media and tech titans for abasing themselves before President-elect Donald Trump, and she summarily quit the newspaper. It was a courageous act.
