Deepfakes are getting harder to spot. Your best defense? Make yourself harder to impersonate. AI can now clone voices, create convincing videos and make fake messages look VERY real. But a few simple habits can help protect you from deepfake scams and AI-powered impersonation.
📵 1. Ignore unknown numbers Don’t answer calls from numbers you don’t recognize. If it’s important, let them leave a voicemail.
🎙️ 2. Avoid personalizing your voicemail
Your voice is valuable data. A personalized voicemail gives scammers another sample they can potentially use for AI voice cloning. Keep your greeting simple and avoid sharing your full name or other identifying information.
🗑️ 3. Delete your data from data brokers
The more personal information available online, the easier it can be for scammers to build a convincing fake identity.
đź”’ 4. Set your social profiles to private Your photos, videos, voice clips, workplace, family members and location can all give scammers material to work with. Review your privacy settings and limit what strangers can see.
The goal isn't to live offline. It's to give scammers less material to work with.
