In preparation for D-Day, the U.S. military created a network of “Phantom Divisions” – fictional divisions that were never actually activated – as a way to deceive the enemy of our true plans and convince them that the landing would take place in Calais

My dad’s insignia collection includes a patch for one phantom division, the 6th Airborne Division.
