On April 28, 2026, the Club welcomed Tayja Strickland with Truvista Fiber, guest of Wendy Lawson, who presented an informative program on “Seniors & Tech.” Tayja shared valuable insights on technology use among senior citizens, common scams targeting seniors, the growing impact of AI-generated fraud, and practical ways to stay protected online.
Topics included identifying artificial calls and manipulated images, recognizing warning signs of scams, and creating safety protocols with family and loved ones. Common scams discussed included “Love Bombing,” where scammers use excessive compliments and emotional manipulation to build trust, medical and Medicare fraud scams seeking sensitive information, and toll and technology scams that threaten arrest or legal action.
Tayja also highlighted the rise of AI-related scams, encouraging everyone to be cautious of images or messages that appear “too perfect” and to use reverse image searches when possible.
Helpful resources shared included the AARP Fraud Watch Network at 1-877-908-3360 and the Federal Trade Commission’s fraud reporting website at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
Thank you, Tayja, for an excellent presentation and for helping our community learn how to stay safe from internet fraud and scams.
