On Monday, we came together for a practical and thought-provoking afternoon on āWorking Smarter with AIā, led by Monica Ioannidou Polemitis.
What made the session particularly valuable was that it wasnāt really about AI for the sake of AI. It was about looking at the work we already do and asking better questions: Where can AI genuinely help? What should we automate? What still needs human judgement? And where does it simply not make sense to use AI?
Through demonstrations, discussion and hands-on exercises, we explored real workplace examples and thought about how AI could become part of everyday workflows.
Perhaps most importantly, we had the opportunity to bring our own challenges from across the maritime sector into the conversation and consider whether AI was actually the right solution ā taking into account data, feasibility, risk, workflow and the role of human oversight.
A big thank you to Monica for making a complex and fast-moving topic approachable, practical and relevant to our everyday work, and to everyone who joined, shared experiences and asked the difficult questions.
We left with plenty to think about ā and, hopefully, a few things to try when weāre back at our desks.
