The NHRA Midwest Nationals roll into World Wide Technology Raceway this weekend, and tonight's qualifying has a new twist: the first-ever "Top Dog" competition.

The quickest qualifier in each professional class takes the "Top Dog Throne," but the position is never secure. Every run presents a chance to be displaced, and the driver still seated when qualifying concludes earns the title, complete with a hot dog trophy.

Here's what makes it work: when qualifying positions can change by a few thousandths of a second, accurate timing and real-time scoring aren't just nice to have, they're what make the competition credible for teams, officials, and fans.

Road Atlanta is a different kind of challenge. Petit Le Mans puts IMSA teams, officials, and technology through one of the most demanding weekends on the calendar - intense pace, diverse field, very little room for systems that can't adapt quickly.

That's what separates motorsports technology from everything else. When things go wrong in other industries, you have time to troubleshoot. At a race like this, you don't. Systems have to work and keep working, because the entire operation depends on it.

There is a lot of information moving around a NASCAR race that never makes it onto the television screen. During Sunday’s 400.5- mile race at Kansas Speedway, timing and scoring tracked everything from car position and lap times to pit stops and gaps throughout the race. Timing data was constantly being collected as cars crossed scoring points around the track, giving teams, officials and broadcasters the information they needed to follow the race as it developed.

When cars are separated by fractions of a second, accuracy matters. Sunday’s race was decided by just 0.565 seconds. That's the kind of racing environment we build for.

This weekend, Rockingham Dragway will host its first NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series national points event, bringing Top Fuel, Funny Car, Pro Stock and Pro Stock Motorcycle to North Carolina for the second race of the Countdown to the Championship playoffs.

The track has gone through major upgrades, new racing and pit-area surfaces, timing and announcing systems, scoreboards and new equipment throughout. A historic track is getting a new chapter, and this weekend it all comes together.

Bristol is a good reminder that a small track can still be a huge operation. This past weekend brought all three of NASCAR's national series to the 0.533-mile oval, with racing from Thursday to Saturday. On a track this tight, everything happens fast. The racing, the decisions, the communication and the technology supporting it all. Every piece of technology has to be dependable, easy to use and ready when it’s needed. There isn’t much room for anything to slow things down when the action is moving this fast.

The IMSA Battle on the Bricks is back at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend. A race weekend like this is a great example of just how much technology is a part of modern motorsports. Timing and scoring, credentials, data, communications and the systems connecting them all have to keep up with the pace of the racing.

Michigan hasn’t hosted an NHRA National event since 1960. That changes this weekend!

The inaugural NHRA Great Lakes Nationals is coming up September 18th to 20th at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan, and we’re looking forward to seeing this one come together. There’s something special about watching a new event take shape and then finally seeing it become race weekend.

The Yamaha All-Star AMA Pro-Am brought young riders, serious competition, and plenty of action to the track this weekend. What stood out was how quickly things move in motorcycle racing and how important real-time technology and decision-making have to be to keep up.

When you're working at that pace, with that many variables changing in seconds, the technology behind race operations has to be built for speed and precision. There's no room for lag or delays. It's a good reminder of why the systems supporting these events have to be designed for the specific demands of motorcycle racing, not just adapted from other formats.

The U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park is one of those events that puts everything to the test. Big crowds, big pressure, and racing where precision matters. With decades of history behind it, Indy is a place where the details matter just as much as the big moments. From qualifying to eliminations, there’s very little room for error when the difference between winning and losing can come down to thousandths of a second.

There’s a different standard for technology when the result can come down to a fraction of a second. Timing and scoring is an example of this.

What looks like a simple number on a screen is the result of data being captured and processed in real time, then turned into information that people can actually use. And the timing matters just as much as the accuracy.

During a race, everything changes constantly, laps complete, positions shift, data updates. Building for that environment isn't just about whether something works. It's about whether it performs when the pace is high and the information matters immediately. That’s the kind of challenge that makes motorsports technology so interesting.

Because when every second counts, the technology has to keep up.
