Wiring Diagram
This is something I’ve been wanting to do but never had the opportunity. Well, this last weekend I had to replace my Genasun Controller so I thought I would document the wiring of the Control Box (I hate the term “Brain Box”!). Hopefully this will help you out if you ever need it. I’ll put a copy of this in the FILES section as a PDF.

First Snow!

Well, technically, the first snow that’s not melting right away. This is my 5th winter riding my ELF. Yesterday it was 2 degrees F above zero with a minus 12 degree F wind chill! This morning it was a balmy 20 degrees F. That’s practically a heat wave! I’ve changed over from my light jacket to my winter coat and gloves. If it gets lower then 20 degrees F I’ll also put on my snow pants. By the time I got to work today I was plenty warm. I’m not getting much solar charging anymore since the sun is too low for most of the day. So now I’m bringing my battery inside twice a week to charge it up. According to the ELF Informer my power draw is also going up. I’ve noticed that it requires a little more effort to move the ELF. My guess is that the grease in the bearings and chain is not as fluid and tends to stick more in the cold causing more friction. I’m debating if I should replace the tires with the studded snow tires this weekend or if I should wait.

Don’t let the cold weather stop you from riding your ELF! If you’re cold – put on a jacket. If it’s too cold, get the Deluxe Side Shields. Look What’s New!

Deluxe Sides Shields! These will be available in Red, Green, White or Orange. These are made from a Marine grade canvas and clear vinyl. The Deluxe Side Shields are made in Minnesota. Before I can commit to making these I need a little feedback from you. In order to produce these I have to purchase enough material for 20 sets. If this is something that you might be interested in either now or sometime in the near future let me know by adding a comment below. Also let me know what color you’re interested in. I will not hold you responsible for actually ordering a set but I would like to get your feedback. The price will be $249.95 plus shipping and tax.

ELF Chain Maintenance

It’s spring! OK, I still have five foot snow drifts in front of my yard but at least it’s warmer! I also have my studded snow tires on – I won’t swap these out until sometime in April. Last April we got a snow storm that dumped 20 inches of snow! Every spring and fall I clean and oil my chains.
