Virginia winters aren’t brutal… but they are moody. Give your beds a little love now and they’ll explode next spring. Here’s your quick checklist:

1️⃣ Cut back the chaos (but not everything!)
Trim dead annuals + spent perennials. Leave winter-interest plants (coneflower, black-eyed susan, ornamental grasses) for birds + pollinators.

2️⃣ Mulch like you mean it
Lay 2–3 inches of mulch or shredded leaves to keep roots cozy and moisture steady.

3️⃣ Protect your newbies
Young shrubs + perennials? Give them a little extra mulch or a burlap wrap on exposed sides.

4️⃣ Feed the soil
