DMP was created in 1990 as a full service entertainment company (DJ). Over the years our services changed, and in 1995 the computer service aspect was born. We moved to Centre Hall, PA in early 1999. We relocated our services in June of 2023. We now service most of Centre County. Every year our service offerings expand... Our in shop inventory grows... And we continue to grow our customer base...

No matter what you may hear from other local computer services we have not left the area, the state, or shut down. We are most certainly still in the same area servicing a larger area, and still very much in business. DMP will be celebrating their 29th year in business in 2024 as a computer IT business. We offer a full spam / scam / telemarketer program to small and large groups. Schedule us today to protect your family, friends, and employees. We look forward to serving your tech needs!

Two things to report today in the land of scams...

Text circulating about break-ins in the area and you should get a free security system now.

Much misinformation about the cessation of Windows 10 support.
- Your computer will still function.

Today... Clean up your virtual desktop day!

If your desktop looks like this (pictured), you should do some organizing today!

A few suggestions:

1) Don't store files on your desktop. Instead create a folder in your library folders (documents, pictures, videos...). Then create a shortcut to that folder on your desktop. (if you need assistance doing this send me a message)

2) Clean up your desktop of finished items or files that were left behind from a past project. "Spring Clean" your desktop regularly. Don't store program applications on your desktop either.

3) NEVER store a password file on your computer and especially on your desktop. This also includes any scanned or images of any identifying documents. Tax returns, drivers license photo, social security card, etc. Scammers look for these types of files first.

4) Keep all software up to date. Perform regular antivirus / malware scans. Remove outdated links and applications.

5. If you use cloud backups such as OneDrive, Google Drive, or any other please change your passwords regularly. Cloud backups can be accessed just by having the password so people could be sifting through your files without you knowing it.

6. Desktop backgrounds are a great way to display your favorite family photo, vacation spot, or even a place you want to go on your bucket list. Backgrounds can affect your mood and could cause eye strain. Choose one that best suits your needs. In a professional setting backgrounds should be chosen wisely. Solid colors tend to work the best for aestethics.

The deadline is approaching on Windows 10. Here is what you can truly expect:

1. After October of 2025 you will no longer receive security patches.
So if you aren't updating you will need to make sure you have a reputable antivirus application to protect you. If you pay the $30 though to Microsoft that will give you an additional year of security patches. This practice is actually causing a few lawsuits.

2. In the near future, as new products come out, your equipment will no longer be compatible or designed for the new Windows 11 devices.

3. Items that are designed for Windows 11 may run slower on Windows 10 and lead to slower load times. Sometimes you may even see system crashes.

4. You will miss out on a few of the newest product improvements designed for Windows 11.

5. As a result of the above, productivity will be impacted.

The most important takeaway from this is that the upgrade is not mandatory. Tech companies and some computer techs are making this sound like the end of the world if you don't upgrade. This is just not true.

With the majority of end-users still using Windows 10 it wouldn't be advantageous for any manufacturer to design just for Windows 11 yet.

More to come!

Do you know what occured on September 30th for the final time after 34 years?

AOL dialup logged off for the last time.

Many of us grew up using AOL. We looked forward to hearing "You've got mail. "

It is hard to imagine today how patient we all were back then. Can you believe it often took 5-10 minutes just to download a 10 second video? The videos weren't high definition in any way but having internet actually made you cool. Or at least we thought we were.

With broadband today it is hard to imagine how some areas still only have dialup access.

So in remembrance of AOL dialup leaving us I simply say...

GOODBYE.

Are you experiencing intermittent connectivity with your internet? You aren't alone. There seems to be issues nationwide with many providers. From loss of signal to just slower performance has been reported from coast to coast. Customers are also having issues with cellular service (texts, voicemails, and even call quality). The worst part is when you report it they act as though you are the only one experiencing this problem.

On a seperate note,... have you noticed how horrible it is just to call your ISP to get support? If you actually can that is.

Xfinity does every thing they can to make you use their automated app that insults your intelligence by just rebooting your modem. And wastes your time with repetitive diagnostic steps. If you don't have a smart phone good luck getting any sort of support at all. Their automated attendant forces you into loops with no options for speaking to a live person. Most times you are hung up on when you can't find an option that fits your needs.

Hope this improves soon!

Scams can come from the strangest places. Be aware of emails, texts, and phone calls using AI to impersonate friends, family, public officials, and celebrities.

If you have to ask why this person is contacting me then perhaps it isn't really them.

AI has increased both coverage and success in fraud since 2024.

Don't be their next victim. If you aren't sure then verify before you agree to or engage in any responses.

The company said the service, synonymous with the early days of the internet, will be discontinued on Sept. 30.
