Jordan Boelte handles the website for Flying B Longhorns out of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma, and she doesn’t have time for anything complicated. Her take on the backend of their website is simple: adding a new animal takes about 30 seconds because most of the cattle they’ve bought were already on another Hired Hand powered website. You click the dam, click the sire, and the pedigree fills in on its own. The progeny links automatically. Transferring sold animals has been just as easy. For a boutique operation building fast and buying from well-established programs, not having to rebuild pedigrees from scratch every time is exactly the kind of thing that makes a website worth keeping up with.

The longer Austin and Ashley McCollough watches their herd, the more they surprise them.

They have two cows that are seven and eight years old. Every so often they take off running and jumping around the pasture like calves. Austin says it's one of the best things he gets to watch on the place, and it's easy to see why. There's something about a grown cow acting like nothing has changed since the day she was born.

It fits the way Austin talks about the whole operation. He's only been researching and raising Texas Longhorns for a couple of years, but what keeps him at it isn't the numbers or the sales; it's the chance to interact with his cows and watch them grow. That's a small operation's advantage, the kind of thing you only notice when you know your animals well enough to catch them acting like kids.

McCollough Longhorns is building its name from outside the usual Longhorn territory, which Austin and Ashley know is going to take some extra work. Their new Hired Hand powered website is part of doing that work, one more place for people to find a herd worth knowing.

Cody Robbins is the host of Live 2 Hunt on the Outdoor Channel, a hunter who has filmed some of the biggest mule deer and whitetail ever captured on camera. What most of his hunting audience doesn’t know is that for the last 17 years, his biggest passion has been Texas Longhorn cattle.

He and his wife Kelsy have been building Rafter 7 Longhorns in Saskatchewan, Canada since 2009, learning how to winter Longhorns in minus 40 wind chills, importing genetics across the border, and working through every hard lesson the breed can teach you in one of the most challenging climates in North America. He didn’t want a website until he had something worth showing people. Animals he was proud of, animals that wouldn’t set a new Canadian breeder up for failure.

When he finally decided he was ready, the choice of platform wasn’t hard. Every website he’d spent years browsing and learning from had a Hired Hand watermark at the bottom. He loved the way the genetics organized themselves, the way the photos connected, and the depth of information a buyer could study on any given animal. Within the first month of him launching his website, the interest was more than he could keep up with!

Steve and Leanne Caret didn't set out to build a farm.

They'd lived all over the country, and moving to Texas at the end of 2022 was a choice, one that came with a house that needed a lot of love and care. Somewhere in the middle of fixing it up, their daily walk became the whole point. Every day, a walk with the kind of sunrises and sunsets that stop you, and the sound of cows, donkeys, and chickens filling in the quiet.

Those walks are where they watched the house slowly turn into a home. Somewhere in that process, it stopped feeling like a project and started feeling like the place where they're happiest. Steve says it felt like their own little palace on the prairie, and that's exactly where Prairie Palace Farm got its name.

They started with a couple of steers in the backyard. That's grown into a small herd of six, with another coming soon, and involvement in both TLBAA and ILTA along the way. Their new Hired Hand powered website is one more part of building something out of a place that started as a fixer-upper and became a palace.

Kali Smith will tell any breeder sitting on the fence the same thing without hesitating: get your website up and start collecting data now, because your herd is only going to grow and the data you don't collect today is the data you'll wish you had later.

Cold Copper Ranch brought their Hired Hand powered website on early and marketed through it from the start. "Hey, go to our website," was the pitch before they had the reputation to sell on name alone. Now Kali uses it the way every serious buyer does, pulling up other ranches' pedigrees, running the breeding simulator before committing to a pairing, and staying on top of what the industry is producing. Jacee, their daughter, has every Hired Hand website open in her browser at any given time and could probably tell you whose works best without hesitating.

Kali's advice to anyone who thinks their herd might not be big enough yet: it doesn't matter what size you are right now. It's going to grow, and when it does, you'll want everything already in the system. Cold Copper Ranch runs on a Hired Hand powered website out of Burnett, Texas.

Autry Farms didn't start with Longhorns. It started three generations ago, with Wes Autry's grandfather raising cattle and hogs.

His father took it a different direction, specializing in exotics. By the time Wes came along, the family had already proven they weren't afraid to try something new. So when it was his turn, he didn't stick to one thing either. Today Autry Farms runs AQHA Quarter Horses, Spanish goats, Myotonic fainting goats, and Texas Longhorns, all under one operation.

The Longhorns came in almost by accident. Close to 20 years ago, Wes bought five of them as what he calls pasture art, animals meant to look good on the land more than anything else. It didn't take long for that to change. He and his family fell for the breed's disposition and hardiness, and started noticing things that mattered more than looks: the heat tolerance, and the willingness to eat plants that beef cattle turn their noses up at.

Longhorns are a breed the whole family can enjoy, and the versatility is amazing. That's the part the new site is built to capture, with Hired Hand's linked pedigree system giving Wes a place to track and show the herd, the same feature he says was hands down his deciding factor in choosing to build with them.
