Two very different kinds of SEO agencies exist and which one you choose matters.

Not all SEO is created equal. The industry has a real identity problem: agencies that use spammy, short-term tactics and agencies that focus on sustainable growth both call themselves “SEO.”

So apparently… SEO is dead.

Strange, because this client’s visibility has jumped from a few hundred impressions a day to nearly 900, with over 66,000 search impressions in the last 6 months. Not only that, but they’re generating clicks, calls, and real business ROI directly from organic traffic.

Yes, clicks are still south of where I’d like them (we’re working on that CTR, AI may play a part or just that we're early at 6 months in this campaign)… but when you’re climbing the rankings, showing up in front of more people than ever, and actually booking work from it; SEO looks very much alive.

The reality: SEO isn’t dead. It’s more valuable than ever... if you know what you’re doing.

P.S. The average position when we started was 42, now it's 19.5, and we're making progress!

Interesting news in the SEO/AI world:

Google’s AI “Overviews” Are Grounded in FastSearch, Not Page Links

A recent update from an antitrust filing gives us a peek behind Google’s AI curtain. Unlike standard search results, which often rely on a web of links to signal authority, Google’s Overviews (the AI-generated summaries you might see) are powered by something called FastSearch; a quicker but less polished system. Unlike Google’s traditional algorithm, which ranks pages based on lots of signals like backlinks, FastSearch grabs fewer pages faster, using deep‑learning signals that focus on semantic relevance rather than link popularity.


Why This Matters for Your Small Business
Your SEO game just shifted a bit, but not in a complicated way:

• Quality content still wins, even without link building. With FastSearch leaning on the meaning inside your content, well-written, clear, and helpful content can directly impact how your business appears in AI summaries.

• Backlinks aren’t gone, they still matter in standard search results. But when it comes to AI Overviews, having content that demonstrates expertise, relevance, and clarity is even more useful.

• Balancing act your content strategy can lean into: Keep building authority through traditional SEO tactics (good linking, local citations, etc.) and also invest in super-clear content that answers your customers’ questions in plain language.

Bottom Line: AI-driven search isn’t ignoring links, it’s just using a faster shortcut for certain features.

SEO isn’t dying, it’s evolving, and your business can’t afford to ignore it!

There’s a lot of chatter online about SEO being “dead.” The truth? It’s not dying, it’s evolving.

With Google’s new AI overviews, the answers people see are often pulled directly from the top 1–3 search results. That means if your business isn’t showing up high in search, you’re invisible in both traditional results and the new AI-driven ones.

We’ve been testing this for months now, and what we’re finding is simple: good SEO works. Strong, well-optimized websites are consistently showing up in AI overviews. No tricks, no gimmicks... just doing SEO the right way.

Through the ups and downs, I’ve always focused on building real partnerships — no long-term contracts, no “churn and burn.” Just honest work, strategies built around each client’s goals, and results that keep people around. Most web design/SEO firms try to hide the fact that they're keyword stuffing these days... this is pretty blatant.

This is a HUGE RED FLAG - if your SEO is doing this... get out of there! They either don't know what they're doing, or they're taking your money and being lazy (and not following Google's guidelines either.) In both cases, your site won't rank.

For the record, this site has zero traffic and ranks for no keywords above about the third page on Google... might as well be invisible!
