Wyoming Relay

Wyoming Relay To utilize Wyoming Relay simply dial 7-1-1 to connect with the state relay provider.

Wyoming Relay is a service provided to all residents of Wyoming at no cost that connects individuals who are Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing, DeafBlind and/or have a Speech Disability with users of standard telephones. Whether calling on a standard telephone or a text telephone (TTY, a special phone with a typewriter-style keyboard), relay makes communication simple, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Once dialed the caller will be connected to a specially trained operator known as a Communications Assistant (CA). The CA acts as an impartial, two-way "relay" in the conversation reading messages typed on the TTY to the hearing person while typing responses on the TTY back to the deaf caller. Using relay is easy and offers accessible phone options to residents of Wyoming with hearing loss. Friends, family, business associates and services are just a phone call way.

Today's topic: The Right to a Quality Multilingual Inclusive Education.

Education is a fundamental human right, and every Deaf child deserves access to a high-quality, inclusive education. For Deaf learners, education in their national sign language is essential for language development, academic success, cultural identity, and full participation in society.

Today’s topic highlights the World Federation of the Deaf’s (WFD) celebration of 20 years of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the recognition of national sign languages.

Twenty years after the adoption of the CRPD, recognizing and promoting national sign languages remains essential to advancing Deaf people’s human rights. This milestone is an opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring Deaf individuals have full access, equal opportunities, and the ability to participate fully in all aspects of society.

Wyoming Relay supports the Deaf Community by ensuring that everyone living or working in Wyoming can use relay services at no cost.

Wyoming Relay is proud to be exhibiting at the Wyoming Parent Information Center’s 2026 Conference, “Stronger in the Classroom & Beyond,” held at Laramie County Community College! This year’s event is especially meaningful as the Parent Information Center celebrates 35 years of empowering families, supporting students, and strengthening communities across Wyoming. 🎉

In addition to sharing resources at our exhibit, Wyoming Relay’s Chameen Stratton is presenting a breakout session focused on Telecommunications Relay Services (TRS). Attendees will learn how these vital services help individuals who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, or who have speech disabilities communicate more independently and stay connected at school, at work, and throughout their communities.

We are excited to connect with families, educators, professionals, and community organizations while helping increase awareness and access to communication resources available throughout Wyoming!

Dylan uses Speech-to-Speech to make phone calls more manageable. “Speech-to-Speech makes it easier for me to communicate with other people on the other line,” he shared.

Dylan has cerebral palsy and talking on the phone can take effort in more than one way. It is not only about being understood, but it can also be tiring to hold the phone, manage the call, and stay focused through each step.

“And also, yeah, yeah, it’s tiresome to just sit there all day with your phone up to your ear, you know?” he shared.

Speech-to-Speech allows people with speech disabilities to speak for themselves in their own voice. A trained operator repeats the user’s words clearly so the other person can understand.

For someone who also has limited mobility, fewer taps and fewer screens can matter. Those small changes can help save energy before the conversation even begins.

Dylan’s comments come from his real experience using Speech-to-Speech and navigating phone calls in everyday life.
