A RS3 painted for the Seaboard. This locomotive was built in November of 1950 and retired almost a year to the month I was born in February, 1973. For my new book.

Alcos on the Seaboard usually came up to Savannah, and sometimes all the way to Raleigh and northward. This was because most of the ALCO fleet were assigned to Jacksonville for their main repair shops. EMD's were assigned to Hamlet, for their mechanical needs. Before anyone gets upset, this is my understanding from my research. There are photos of these units in Hamlet, and Raleigh... and I am sure there are probably some in Richmond as well. This is my latest drawing and will be included in my book about the Diesels of the Seaboard. I am trying to have an illustration of each locomotive type they operated.

The 6900... Text below from Wikipedia,

The EMD DDA40X is a 6,600 hp (4,943 kW) D-D locomotive, built by EMD from 1969 to 1971 exclusively for the Union Pacific Railroad. It is the most powerful diesel-electric locomotive model ever built on a single frame, having two 16-645E3A diesel prime movers.

Someone asked about doing a GP30B, so I did. This one has a steam generator so it could be used in passenger train service, at least that is what I am thinking. Not sure if they were used a lot, in that service.

I am sure some of our friends on here probably know the answer.

Hope you like it.

From CSX Photo Archives website...

Starting in April 1995, this orange/black scheme was applied to older, less reliable units that were assigned to Maintenance of Way duties. 69 units (9 U18Bs, 6 U23Bs, 1 B23-7, 1 GP30M, 20 GP38s, & 32 GP40s) ended up in this scheme commonly referred to as the Pumpkin scheme. The last pumpkin was painted in 1998.
