Blue Screen of Death (BSoD)

Many people think of blue as a calming color; however, when it comes up on your computer screen with a bunch of white text, it probably has the opposite effect. The blue screen of death (BSoD or STOP Error) may appear to be one of the scariest computer problems you'll come across. However, all your computer may need is for you to reboot it. This STOP error appears on your screen for a variety of reasons: failing hardware, damaged software, corrupt DLL files, problems with drivers, etc.... The remedy for a blue screen of death depends on the original problem. The screen provides you with codes that can help you identify and fix your computer problems.

Has your PC ever crashed before loading the OS?

If your PC only shows the manufacturer logo and then crashes right before it was supposed to load the operating system, then it’s a problem with RAM or hard disk. As the OS is unable to load, then either the RAM is corrupted and can’t hold the boot loader or the hard drive is damaged and can’t load data inside it.

If you have multiple RAM slots, take out each one of them one by one and then start the PC, this will help find the culprit. In the end, you will have to replace the corrupted RAM or the hard disk, whichever has the issue.

When you can’t open email attachments, it's probably because you didn’t have the software necessary to view the file.

The usual suspect is the .pdf file, for which you can download a free PDF reader. If your problem involves a different file format, a quick search on the attachment’s file extension (the three letters after the period in the filename) should tell you what type of program you need.

Spotty wireless connection?

This can be hard to troubleshoot and end up becoming very frustrating.
Is it your computer? Your router? Your ISP?

Windows Network Diagnostics may not always solve your problem, but it will usually point you in the right direction.

Also, Confirm that your computer is within range of your wireless router. Weak signals mean weak connections.

Next, make sure your PC’s wireless card has the latest drivers.

You can also try to let Windows troubleshoot for you by right-clicking the Wi-Fi/Ethernet icon in the taskbar and selecting Troubleshoot problems.
