Most people probably know that I sell Kenwood FM 2 way radios and have so for over 45 years. I have started to see these radios for sale over the internet in recent years at lower prices than what I have. Even though these are probably the same radios, most people don't know that they don't come tuned for output power or receive. I even know some radio shops that don't do anything but program these radios without tuning the receive or output wattage. Most of these radios that come out of the box are only putting out 40-45 watts and have seen some as low a 35 watts and receive is probably down 10-20%. All the radios that I sell are tuned with the average output power of 53-55 watts. Without a service monitor to tune these radios the average range is down 20%. I often wonder if the lower price is worth only getting 80% of the radios capabilities.
