Tech Tip Tuesday: Do a quick device headcount!

When we think of "connected devices," we usually think of our phones and laptops. But what about the smart TV, the gaming console, security cameras, tablets, and even smart thermostats?

Having issues with your Smart TV? Before you worry, this may not be caused by your internet access, but by the TV or the specific app you are using!

Just like computers, Smart TVs can get bogged down with temporary data and background processes. If you are experiencing:
▪Power &/or Screen Issues (Freezing or blank screens)
▪App Performance Issues (Buffering, crashing, or stuck on loading screens)
▪Sound/Audio Issues (Audio out of sync or no sound at all)

Try a quick Power Cycle to clear the system's memory and give it a fresh start! Here is how to do it in 3 easy steps:
1. Unplug it: Turn off your TV and unplug the power cord directly from the wall outlet or surge protector.
2. Wait it out: Leave it unplugged for a full 60 seconds.
3. Plug it back in: Plug the power cord back in, turn the TV on, and test your apps.

Many internet providers still deliver service over cables attached to utility poles. When hurricanes destroy poles, internet service can be interrupted until electric utilities replace the poles and communications providers reconnect their cables.

After Hurricane Rita, more than 11,000 utility poles were replaced. Following Hurricane Ida, more than 25,000 distribution poles in Louisiana required replacement. Depending on the severity of the storm and the number of damaged poles, restoration efforts can continue for months, with homes and businesses experiencing outages until repairs are completed.

Want to know if your internet is storm vulnerable? Walk outside and look at the utility pole near your home or business. If you see a small communications cable about 48 inches below the electric power lines, your internet service is likely being delivered on an overhead cable attached to that pole.
