The Museum of the Moving Image is partnering with Light to kick off Phone Free Fridays. Starting in October and running through December, guests have the option to check their phones in at the entrance to receive 50% off admission cost! There will be a special opening reception next Friday, October 2nd, as well - RSVP @ https://luma.com/dtk1ds42.
“Moving images have always shaped how we see the world. What is different now is that screens and technology are with us all the time, shaping our attention and experience often without us noticing,” said Gabo Arora, Director of Strategic Initiatives at MoMI. “We want MoMI to be a place where people can step back and think critically about technology’s role in their lives. Phone-Free Fridays is a simple experiment: put the phone away for a few hours, be present with one another, and see what changes.”
Phone-Free Fridays gives visitors a simple opportunity to reflect on their own relationship to technology by temporarily stepping away from it.
MoMI programming during this period includes the major exhibition Overexposed: Art, Technology, and the Body; and its popular core exhibition Behind the Screen and The Jim Henson Exhibition.
Museum hours on Fridays are 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. ET
Phone-Free Fridays will launch on October 2 with a “Free yourself from Big Tech” workshop at 5pm and an opening reception at 6pm. Programming will continue on Fridays through December with special screenings, demos, workshops, conversations, and informal gatherings developed through MoMI LAB, all exploring new ways of thinking about our relationship to technology.
