My love hate relationship with AI
AI is impressive.

AI is frustrating.

Recently, I was troubleshooting a technical issue with ChatGPT. It suggested a fix. I implemented it.

It failed.

I replied:
“That didn’t work. Here’s the error message…”

It gave me the same solution again.

I tried once more. Same answer.

We were stuck in a loop.

So I pulled out a quote commonly attributed to Einstein (though its origin is debated):

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results.”

That broke it.

Excalidraw - I forgot about this one...
I bookmarked this several years ago and forgot about it.

Excalidraw is a whiteboard and flowchart app. Not as sophisticated as Visio for sure, but good enough to get a casual job done.

I particularly like the look of the output which have a hand-drawn feel to them.

Clean Up Unifi Client Data
I created a small Excel VBA macro to clean Unifi client data. You need to copy the data from the Unifi Client Devices page and paste it into an Excel Worksheet. Once that is done running the macro will clean up an formatting or weird stuff that is copied over from the web page.

Working with OneDrive in VBA (revisited)
In June 2023 I wrote a post about working with OneDrive in VBA. The code I created worked with the use case I had at the time and five months later it broke. Faced with a new use case I did a complete rewrited.

I intended to repost the new code and never did, until today.

The “Next Message” Gap in New Outlook
In the new Outlook, automatically jumping to the next or previous email after deleting one only works in the reading pane. Open emails in a separate window? Forget it—you’re dumped back into the inbox list, adding an extra step every time.

New Outlook, yet another missing feature :-(
In the new Outlook, you cannot move messages between Office 365 and IMAP (i.e. GMail) accounts.

The advice for now is to copy the messages to the IMAP folder and manually delete them.

Tools I love...
Sometimes it is the little things in life that make you happy.

Find My Mouse is part of the Microsoft PowerToys collection.

For me, the default settings are not very useful. However changing the activation method to "Shake Mouse" makes all the difference.

I use an ultrawide monitor and when I "lose" my mouse. My natural action is to start moving the mouse around it an attempt find it. With Find My Mouse this automatically highlights the mouse.

How to get NVME drive to boot on Supermicro X11 motherboard
Been reorganizing my homelab. It has been one disaster after another. At least today I had one victory.

After installing Proxmox on an new NVME drive, system did not see the drive. Was replacing another M.2 drive which was working. Spent too much time configuring BIOS settings and rebooting. Eventually, I figured it out. I hope this saves time for someone else.
