What type of program has the biggest draw in audiences of choice? Five years of data at a busy public planetarium may shed some light.

Drawing on the decisions of roughly 10,000 public visitors a year, live sky programs at one such planetarium kept landing near the top of the attendance rankings.

Explore these observations for yourself in our newest blog post.

Attendance data from Ingram Planetarium and published research showing that live sky programs draw and retain audiences more reliably than pre-recorded films.

🌟 Keynote Spotlight: Beyond the Dome

What if your planetarium could be more than a place where students learn about astronomy?

At this year’s Planetarium Leaders Summit, Dr. Carlos Miranda will share how the P-TECH Planetarium in Paterson, New Jersey, has expanded its impact through portable planetariums, community partnerships, interdisciplinary programming, and student leadership.

His keynote, “Beyond the Dome: Rethinking What a Planetarium Can Make Possible,” will challenge us to think beyond what happens inside the dome—and explore how a planetarium can become a platform for creating new opportunities for students, educators, families, and the broader community.

🔭 Want to bring the latest astronomical discoveries into your planetarium?
Citizen science is a fantastic way to connect your audience with real research and now there’s a new way to explore data from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory!
Check out this new Zooniverse project and help tell the story of our ever-changing cosmos. 🌌

We need your eyes! 🖥️🌌

Want to help discover some of the faintest galaxies in the Universe?

Introducing Rubin: Blobs and Blurs, a brand-new citizen science project on Zooniverse using data from NSF–DOE Rubin Observatory.

We’re on the hunt for extreme, mysterious galaxies 🌌 Specifically, faint "diffuse dwarf galaxies" and odd "blue blobs," that are dominated by invisible dark matter.

Because these objects are so dim and uniquely shaped, computer algorithms aren't always great at spotting them 🫣

By helping find them, you can help scientists better understand how galaxies form. All you need in order to participate is your curiosity! 🔭✨

🌑Did you know eclipses come in pairs?

A solar eclipse is always accompanied by a lunar eclipse about two weeks before or after! Following the solar eclipse earlier this month, we can now look forward to a lunar eclipse during the full Moon on August 27. 🌕

Want to know exactly when the eclipse will be visible from your location? Check the timing at Time and Date:
https://www.timeanddate.com/eclipse/lunar/2026-august-28

With Nightshade’s volumetric shadows, students can explore the geometry behind eclipses and follow the paths of the Sun, Earth, and Moon from unprecedented angles—turning a spectacular celestial event into a hands-on learning experience.
