This is a fairly recent approach for a scam from hackers. They send you an invitation that pops up daily for a week or so. If you go to the link in the meeting they steal your credentials. The first two images show you what to look for in the email that is sent and the calendar entry that is automatically added to your calendar. The last images shows you how to get rid of the email by declining and not responding. This gets rid of the calendar event as well.

Fracking hackers never give up.

I highlighted the features of this email that show it to be a phishing attack. The email is not from Microsoft and the periods in the sentences at the bottom are to try to fake out anti-spam software.

Just delete these kinds of emails if/when you get them.

What's on my mind? Scammers. They are relentless and attack with impunity. Chrome has some powerful protection mechanisms to help you avoid be sucked into phishing attacks. In this series of images, I clicked on the email and it opened Chrome to take me to the malicious page. However Chrome displayed the page in red to warn me that I was trying to go to a page that wasn't safe.

The next two images show how to use Chrome's settings to enable 'Safe Browsing' which is the mechanism that displayed the red warning screen. Most browsers and/or anti-virus software have these types of protections. You just have to make sure they are enabled.

Also, phishing attacks are platform independent. Macs and Linux computers are susceptible to these attacks as the take advantage of human trust, not holes in any particular computer's security.

The hackers are relentless. Microsoft will NOT send you emails asking you to change your password. The from address is the main giveaway.

Do not click anywhere on a suspicious email in your inbox. This one took me to an excellent reproduction of Microsoft's login page, but if I'd followed the on-screen instructions, I would have given them my password. This is what they are looking for and a very real reason NOT to re-used passwords.

If I had entered my password and I used the same one for multiple sites, I'd have opened the door to the hackers to use my email address and password on any sites the wished. If one of those happened to be my bank...

Lots of you are using Office 365 so the hackers are targeting you. Don't be fooled by this email. The non-Microsoft / non-Office From: email address is one good clue. Hovering over the link in red reveals that you will NOT navigate to Microsoft or Office to 'update' your password. Bad hacker. Bad.

The phishing attempts are non-stop. I highlighted the giveaways that this is NOT from Microsoft.

There are bad actors everywhere you turn. If you receive an email with an HTML or HTM attachment, DON'T OPEN IT! If you do open it, DON'T DO WHAT IT ASKS! They are trying to steal your credentials. See my last post about not reusing passwords to understand why they do it.

More scams are coming your way, not just through email phishing attempts, but in your texts on your phone. The are still trying to scam your login information. Don't fall for it.

MORAL: don't use the same passwords for multiple sites!
Lots of people have Microsoft 365 for their email. This sort-of convincing email has two flaws that mark it as a phishing attempt. The absurd email address it was sent from and the HTML attachment. The danger is in the attachment which will get you to enter your MS credentials into a fake MS site so they can then use the credentials for a wide array of accounts that they'll hack. This attack works because so many people use just one or two passwords or predictable variations of their password.

DO NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS from emails unless you are certain of their origin.

Scam alert! This phishing attack is NOT from Microsoft but some arbitrary email address. Opening the attachment will take you to a site where they will capture your user name and password for your Microsoft account then use it to attack your online accounts.
