In 1987, NECS’ President and original software developer, Chris Anatra, had determined that the market was severely lacking in specialized software to address the needs of wholesale food distributors — especially those dealing with meat, seafood, produce, cheese — as well as full-line distributors. In NECS’ formative years, the computer industry was beginning its move from large mainframe and mini computer systems to the more economical personal computer. Chris saw the opportunity to design a system based on the new networking technologies available at the time; adapting to this technology early helped NECS become an industry leader, providing comprehensive, user-friendly software at an economical price.

We’re excited to share what’s coming in entrée v5.2: a new PostgreSQL database engine that will power the next chapter of your business software.

We’ve used PostgreSQL for our online platforms since 2015, and we’re bringing that experience to the entrée you rely on every day.

Internal testing is going well, with some operations running several times faster than on our current database after optimization. Our engineers are continuing to test and fine-tune performance as we work toward an anticipated February 2027 release.

Want an early look? We’re planning an early-adopter opportunity, potentially beginning in December 2026, for customers to test v5.2 in their sandbox environment.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our final in-house training of the year!

Over three days, we dove into new, existing (and exciting future) features and products; shared ideas with fellow distributors, and built connections that will last well beyond the session.
