Can intern housing really impact the success of an internship program?

Housing can influence more than where an intern lives. It can affect whether students accept an offer, how they experience their first weeks, and whether they want to return to the company.

We’re taking a closer look at why intern housing should be treated as part of the internship program, not an afterthought, and what employers can do to better support their interns.

Intern Spotlight 🌟

Kaii Mitchell shared her 2026 summer internship experience at in Chicago, IL:

“Over the past summer, I had the opportunity to intern at DePaul College of Science and Health as a Research Assistant for 6 weeks. I was very nervous about relocating for the summer without any friends or family, but I am so grateful I did. This opportunity opened so many doors for me both academically and professionally. I worked on a psychology-based project concerning attitudes toward homelessness with Dr. Nyssa Snow-Hill. Our goal with our research was to be able to understand and measure people's attitudes toward those experiencing homelessness and to ultimately change those attitudes to reduce stigma/discrimination and increase implementation to help these underserved populations. I got to meet many new friends and build closer bonds with faculty and my grad mentors, and I am so grateful to have been given the opportunity to work as an intern.”

College can get busy quickly, especially once you're a few weeks into the semester.
Sometimes it's the little things that make the biggest difference. Keeping track of deadlines, having a snack when you're running between classes, or taking a few minutes to prepare for tomorrow can make your week feel much less overwhelming.
What’s one small thing that makes your college life easier? 👇

Intern Spotlight 🌟
johnson412 shared her 2026 summer internship experience in Washington D.C.:

“Living and interning in D.C. was such a meaningful and foundational experience in that season of my life. Going from growing up in a small community to living right behind the Supreme Court in the heart of our nation’s capital felt surreal. That season taught me so much, pushed me outside of my comfort zone, and paved the way for experiences I never could have expected.

The culture in D.C. is unlike anywhere else I’ve lived. It’s a city filled with politicians, finance guys, lobbyists, journalists, interns, and, of course, your regular average Joe. Being surrounded by people from so many different backgrounds and walks of life opened my eyes to new perspectives and taught me the value of stepping outside what is familiar.

One of my biggest prayer requests before moving was that the Lord would provide fruitful, intentional community—and wow, did He overdeliver. Kings Church brought some of the best friends into my life and gave me one of the strongest, most intentional communities I have ever been a part of. I’m incredibly grateful for the people who made D.C. feel like home.

Big-city life definitely has its ups and downs, but overall, D.C. was an incredible experience that shaped me personally, professionally, and spiritually. I’ll always be grateful for that season and will always recommend living somewhere completely different from what you’re used to at least once in your life.

D.C., you were good to me. 🤍”
