Stop looking at your profit and loss statements at the fleet level and start focusing on individual assets.

Here is why every truck needs its own P&L:
1️⃣ Unique cost structures. Every asset has a different cost based on its powertrain and age.
2️⃣ High downtime costs. Lost revenue can reach $1,600 a day per truck when it is out of service.
3️⃣ Better decision making. Asset level data helps you see which trucks are actually making money and which ones are draining your bank account.

Moving upstream from reactive repairs is the only way to protect your bottom line.

A hot load to Colorado sounds great until you're stuck there trying to get home.

Sammy Lloyd avoids markets like that on purpose. The freight coming out doesn't pay enough to cover the trip back.

Before he leaves the house, he checks the Truckstop load board to see where the freight is actually moving. Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, NorCal, LA, Kansas City.

The goal isn't one good load. It's making sure the next one is already waiting.

What markets do you avoid? Drop them in the comments so other carriers know what to skip.

Fuel card fraud rarely shows up as an obvious charge. By the time most carriers notice, the pattern has been going on for weeks.

The four types hitting truckers most: card cloning, pump skimmers, phishing scams, and drivers using the card off-route.

One red flag worth knowing: a contactless payment screen with physical damage or drilled holes usually means a skimmer has been installed, forcing you to swipe. Move to another pump.

Most carriers look at their profit for the whole fleet, but are you looking at the profit for every single truck?

Trent Broberg, CEO of Fullbay, joined us on Behind the Freight to talk about why asset level data is the secret to staying in the green.

We talked about how predictive maintenance is moving from a buzzword to a reality and why keeping your wheels turning is really a matter of better communication.

Dry van spot rates came within 3 cents of their all-time high in Week 21, while Memorial Day pulled load counts down across the board.

Here's what Truckstop.com and FTR showed for Week 21 (ending May 29):

1️⃣ Dry Van
Rates rose just over 9 cents to $3.06, within 3 cents of the all-time record. Load volume dropped on the holiday but still ran more than 43% above last year.

2️⃣ Re**er
Rates pulled back a little more than 10 cents after a record four-week run driven by International Roadcheck week. Volume fell sharply on the holiday but stayed ahead of last year.

3️⃣ Flatbed
Rates rose just over 9 cents to another all-time high, the 22nd straight weekly gain. Load volume dropped for the holiday but ran close to 94% higher than the same 2025 week.

What this means
The holiday load drop is expected and temporary. Rate levels across all three equipment types remain historically strong, with dry van now at its highest point since late 2021.

Within an hour of a canceled load, Sammy Lloyd already has another one booked.

Every owner-operator knows the feeling. You're 80 miles from nowhere, the load you planned your week around just fell through, and the math on fuel and hours starts adding up fast.

Sammy, founder of Lloyd Truckin, doesn't waste time on the panic. He pulls up the Truckstop.com load board, finds something close, and gets moving again.

No secret. Just a habit of moving fast when things go sideways.

What's your go-to move when a load falls through?

A broker offers you $6,000 for a short run from Miami to Atlanta.
Sounds great, right? You're probably not getting paid.

Dale Prax shared the red flags every carrier should watch for before accepting a load:

🚩 A contact who says the load is coming from a sister company or another entity
🚩 Mid-trip instructions to drop at a warehouse that's not on your paperwork
🚩 Any lie about the details, no matter how small

Check market rates on Truckstop before you commit. And if a contact isn't straight with you once, don't give them a second chance.

Have you spotted any of these on a load? Drop your story in the comments.

It only costs $300 and a stolen gift card to start a scam in the trucking industry.

Dale Prax traced the fraud surge back to the pandemic.

Brokers hired and trained cheap overseas labor to run their operations. When those jobs disappeared, those same workers used their insider knowledge to set up fake companies.

That's why the industry now sees 6,000 new MC numbers issued every month to people who shouldn't have them.

Spot rates rose for all equipment types in Week 20, with Roadcheck week effects still lifting the market heading into Memorial Day.

Here's what Truckstop.com and FTR showed for Week 20 (ending May 22):

1️⃣ Dry Van
Rates rose 13 cents to the highest level since January 2022 and ran 48% above the same 2025 week. Load volume eased 3.2% after the Roadcheck jump but stayed more than 41% above last year.

2️⃣ Re**er
Rates climbed 6 cents after the record 52-cent Roadcheck jump and ran 48% above the same 2025 week. Load volume fell 11.4% but held 11% above last year.

3️⃣ Flatbed
Rates rose 7.7 cents to another record, now up in 26 of the past 27 weeks, and ran 45% above the same 2025 week. Load volume hit its highest level since May 2022, about 82% above last year.

What this means
Last week's numbers still reflect Roadcheck capacity tightening. Watch for van and re**er rates to level off before the late-June pickup, while flatbed keeps running on its own track.

Nearly 20,000 bad actors blocked from onboarding in 2025. A 57% drop in reported fraud incidents for customers. Up to 80% faster carrier onboarding.

Those numbers reflect what's possible when an industry decides to push back. Freight fraud is a problem no single company solves alone. It takes brokers, carriers, technology providers, and law enforcement working together.

Truckstop.com is honored to be named one of the 2026 FreightWaves Fraud Fighters Award winners in the Solution Provider category, alongside the other honorees doing important work in this space.

Thank you to FreightWaves for the recognition, and to the team behind our Risk Assessment System.
