We’re pleased to share that WEMB is back on the air after their AM antenna system was completely destroyed during Hurricane Helene in 2024. When the Nolichucky River flooded, it wiped out their entire AM transmission site and caused severe damage throughout Erwin, Tennessee.

WEMB on 1420 kHz is an important community radio station serving the city of Erwin. We’re grateful to have had the opportunity to help them return to the air using a slant wire feed from their FM tower.

Back in the mid 2000’s we were grateful to have the opportunity to play a small part in the HAARP antenna system by designing and supplying the 10kW even mode RF power reject loads. These loads operate outdoors with annual ambient air temperatures ranging from -60F to +90F in Alaska, have performed perfectly with no failures since installation in 2006. These RF loads are required to enable the HAARP antenna element matching units to reject undesired antenna mutual coupling even mode RF power for phased array antenna stability. This is a remarkable performance and reliability achievement!

In early 2024 we were contacted by the chief engineer for the HAARP antenna to ask if we could design and supply a solution to resolve an issue they were experiencing with voltage breakdown at guy attachment points which was causing the failure of guy supports for the antenna array. We quickly iterated and tested a design and were able to increase the voltage breakdown by 32kVpk. The corona fixtures were installed in 2024 and the chief engineer had the following to say recently about the project: “Kintronic Labs asked the right technical questions, understood this unique RF corona problem, then promptly designed and tested a clamp on Corona Ball solution that did not require breaking tension on the installed guy assemblies. Kintronic provided a high quality and cost effective solution for the 720 corona balls required." We’re thankful to be a go to source for high voltage RF solutions.
