Openwords

Openwords Openwords is creating a mobile app for foreign language learning. All of our content will be open source. That is our goal.

Who we are

Openwords was founded on August 28th 2012 by Marc Bogonovich, and incorporated as an Indiana LLC on February 5th, 2013. We have a group of developers, designers, linguists, and business people helping us get started. Most people involved in Openwords are graduate students or undergrads from Indiana University, Bloomington. Our goal

Openwords is developing an app on Android, starting w

ith vocabulary problems - All of our content will be Open source (Language1-Language2 words), and our file format will allow pedagogically useful visualizations. Think of the Openwords program, as a mobile platform that can read open source data, and present language problems to users/learners. The open content system will mean that interested parties could provide electronic content for ignored language combinations. Imagine electronic content on a mobile device for English to Swahili, Or Chinese to Swahili, Or Kannada to English. At the same time, we will also focus on more conventional language combinations like English to Spanish. Openwords will contribute to and incorporate existing public information assets, such as the Wiktionary, Apertium, and others. Openwords is a different kind of software company, one whose goals are aligned with public interest and the cultural diversity of Earth.
