My intention with the video was to explain the importance of obtaining an RMA before sending a radio in for repair. At the moment, we are extremely backed up. Our shop consists of myself and two part‑time technicians, and keeping up with repairs has been challenging.
I prefer to speak directly with our customers before work begins so we can agree on the repairs needed and the bench time required. That communication helps us manage expectations and keep things moving as efficiently as possible.
I sincerely apologize for the implied humor in the video. It was never my intention to humiliate or embarrass anyone.
The gentleman who sent the radio has since been in contact with the shop. His 11‑year‑old grandson found the radio in the garage and wanted to get on the air. I genuinely admire the young man’s effort to power up and connect the radio—curiosity and hands‑on learning are a good thing.
The radio has been repaired by replacing the power jack, installing uppers and lowers (PLL02A) on the delta tune switch, repainting the case, and peaking and tuning it on the Marconi. I will also be donating an Astron 12‑amp power supply.
It’s great to see a young person taking an interest in radio and technology and spending time learning instead of sitting behind an Xbox.
