Monday Newsletter!
The short supply of semi-conductors is a major issue that everyone around the world is experiencing, even if you haven't noticed yet.
As you drive by your brand-name car dealerships such as Ford, GMC, BMW, etc. you might notice that their car inventory is quite low, questionable low, perhaps they are going out of business? Well, that's not the case (And hopefully won't be), unfortunately, the world is so computer-driven that we rely on the companies that make microchips, and due to the unforeseen Covid-19 pandemic, those microchip factories had to close down and cease production. You might think, "Well their on the other side of the world, how can it affect us, let alone everyone?". To answer that question, there are only three semiconductor manufacturers in the world such as Samsung, Intel, and TSMC. Now, these are some really big names that you can find in day-to-day items such as your phones, cars, computers, TVs, gaming consoles, and even appliances. As we have 7.8 billion people that cater to our electronic devices this pandemic has hit us hard. I have seen outrageous markups on the new technology such as computer parts for example. Nvidia who manufactures high-performance computer parts has seen a 300% mark-up value from MSRP. And that's not the end of this issue, as some might have noticed when you started working from home when you went out to buy a printer you would go to every store you could think of and they would be completely out of stock. This is a direct result of how bad our chip shortage is. You might be able to order your new phone and it could take as long as 2-3 months for it to finally arrive!
As we're finally coming out of the 2020 pandemic pretty please with a cherry on top, recycle your old technology! Our demand is too great right now not to do anything and hope for the best. If we hit another pandemic within 2 years we could be set back for 5-10 years with costs hitting sky high.
Thank you very much for reading the article. This is very much a serious case regarding everyone in the world.
Have a great fourth of July.
