Today, we pause not only to remember a defining moment in history, but to honor the individual human lives that were taken on September 11, 2001.
Behind the numbers are mothers and fathers, sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, friends, and colleagues. They were people who woke up that morning, kissed their loved ones goodbye, went to work, or boarded a flight with ordinary plans for the day. They included accountants, flight attendants, office workers, chefs, maintenance staff, and passengers from all walks of life.
We also remember the dedicated first responders—firefighters, police officers, and paramedics—who rushed toward danger without a moment's hesitation, embodying the absolute best of human courage and selflessness.
Today and every day, we hold their families and loved ones in our hearts. Their absence left an immeasurable void, but their memory, and the spirit of unity and kindness they left behind, lives on in us.
