We live in a culture where many people seem to idealize celebrities, movie stars, and others who they deem special or better than they are. These people are quick to accept an inferior position to others simply because others are well-known. They have an issue with self-esteem and self-confidence.
This also goes on in the martial arts world. Many martial artists idealize martial arts celebrities as if they are better or more important than they are. This is accepting an inferior position to those people simply because of the image that they portray or who they are. Don't be impressed by smoke and mirrors!
The truth is you should never accept an inferior position to anyone. Other people are where they are because they made different choices in life or had different goals, not because they are superior to you. Everyone has a different path to travel. Others' paths are not better or more important than your path; they're simply different paths.
This same philosophy applies to martial arts or self-defense. Refuse to accept an inferior position or to be intimidated by someone else. Flashy kicks and impressive acrobatics never won a real fight. They might impress people at a tournament or on some video, but they have little to nothing to do with self-defense or true martial arts.
Never accept an inferior position to anyone, whether it is the president of the United States, some celebrity, or some muscle-bound thug. Maintain your calm, rational mind and see things as they truly are. The only time someone is superior to you is when you put them in that place mentally. Warrior up!
