Radar was able to work with Southern Green Lake County Ambulance and Dalton Fire and their first responders tonight while doing a practice dive in Spring Lake. Thank you for coming out and learning about our process from start to finish.

Some members from RADAR were able to get their suits wet in a pool today and practice some basic skills since we have been out of the water for several months. RADAR would like to extend a HUGE thank you to the very nice local resident who gave us permission to use his pool for the night.

Along with basic skills, we were able to also hook up our second communication line. We now are able to have two divers and one person on shore all communicating at once! This is very exciting for us and we hope to get much more comfortable with the system throughout the year.

With the mild temperatures heading into this weekend, remember that the ice is quickly becoming thin, uneven, and unsafe!

This video is of the diver who lost their weight pouch. The instructor ended up having to grab this diver and just pull them down to the bottom so they could at least see what the lake looked like from below the ice.

The GoPro caught the exact moment that this diver lost their weight pouch! Unfortunately we could not recover the pouch since it fell into over 3 feet of muck. 🤦🏻‍♀️

RADAR had 5 divers go through certification this weekend to become ice divers. The class consisted of classroom time and then three dives that required different skills to be performed. This was definitely a challenging course.

We had gear freeze up.
We had a diver lose a weight pouch with 11 pounds of lead in it.
It was cold.
It was exhausting.

These are just screen shot photos from a video that will be uploaded soon. When they are taken off of screen shots, they aren’t the best visuals. Also, trying to screen shot in between bubbles is kind of tricky!

Many of us said it felt like we were in outer space. It was dark, but we could see forever.

Stay safe this weekend on the ice!

Please remember that ice conditions can change quickly.
