While “artist” has been a part of my identity for what feels like my entire life, for the last 14 school years, “educator” has also been a part. What I’ve learned in the last few years, is how starkly clear it is to me that I go to work for my kids. They are the most important part of my job. To get the privilege of watching students blossom in their creativity, to get a front row seat in watching them grow from big kids to young adults… it’s pretty special.

I feel so very blessed to get a chance to inspire some young minds, to help them find their voice, confidence in their own ideas, a vision… it’s the part of my job that I’ll never get over. How cool.

Some years are harder than others. This one felt heavy on everyone, for a lot of reasons. We had to find the light.

These windows at our high school always look so interesting as the sun shines in. I like the way this one turned out.

Happy summer!

⭐️ International publication status! ⭐️

One of my pieces is featured in the Purple Martin Conservation Association Spring 2026 issue! They reached out after I shared this piece I created from photography of the Celeste Purple Martin House at Lakewood Park in Lakewood, Ohio and I couldn’t be more honored to be a part of a publication of this stature. So exciting to be getting my photography out there and to know it’s speaking to people.

Conservation for these birds is super important as they almost solely rely on housing made by humans. In fact, they have lived alongside humans for centuries—Native Americans originally started the tradition of hollowing out gourds for them to nest in. Their flocks are so large they show up on weather radar and if you ever get to see their murmuration in person, it is truly breathtaking!

I decided to release a few pieces now available for purchase on my site featuring this piece, so head on over to daliajean.com to get your sweet Purple Martin gear. To learn more about Purple Martins and ways you can help be an ally to this beautiful species, visit purplemartin.org.

Dogwood Blooms 2026

Nature is just… UGH! 😍 I love Dogwoods so much. I have them included in a tattoo on my arm. I felt the branched blooms should be there, given the meaning of my name:

Dalia is a feminine name with Hebrew, Arabic, and Lithuanian origins, primarily meaning “branch,” “bough,” or “gentle”. It is often associated with the dahlia flower (symbolizing grace and inner strength) or, in Lithuanian mythology, a goddess of fate. The name represents elegance, growth, and natural beauty.
