The “mind your business” culture a contributor to the way people who perpetrate evil get away with it. When we look out for each other, we show the bad people that we see them, and we will not let them get away with hurting people.

Yes, we understand that there are situations where people are deliberately planted to prey on kindness and a person who looks like they’re in trouble could actually be a trap.

So what do you do when you see trouble and you are too afraid to insert yourself in the situation?

- Draw attention to the scene. Scream, shout, cause a ruckus. If it’s a hoax, they would not want the attention.
- Record something and be obvious about it. The bad guys don’t want to be seen.
- If there are law enforcement officers nearby, alert them.
- Use the Report Feature on the NauNauSOS App.

The point is, if you can do something, DO SOMETHING!

There are a few things that stand out in this video.

1. The boy recognized that something was wrong.
2. He immediately screamed to draw attention, and kept his eyes on the criminal and the abducted girl.
3. The adult that heard him DID NOT IGNORE HIM!

This is why safety education for children matters so much. Many adults assume kids are “too young” to notice danger, which is a very wrong assumption, because children often sense fear, coercion, discomfort and abnormal behavior. The problem is that many of them have not been taught what to do when they notice these things.

- Teach your children to recognize distress in other children.
- Teach them that reporting suspicious behavior is not disrespectful.
- Do not shut them down or ignore them when they speak up. You will kill the little courage they have.
- When a child in distress comes to you, HELP THEM!

Bless that young boy for making sure that girl was saved.
Bless that woman who stepped in.
