There has been an uptick in false Microsoft malware/spyware infections this month. Many are getting a popup and audio warnings to call an 800 number to get help.

NO pop-up of this nature is real, they are all fake. DO NOT call the number listed.

The easiest solution can be to force your computer to shut down (press and hold the power button). Sometimes the pop-up installed code that interrupts Internet. in this case, your computer should be cleaned and cleared of harmful software.

Also: Microsoft nor any other technology company, will call you about your computer. Ever.

A year ago I was having trouble with my iPhone and the Genius Bar folks at The Apple Store recommended I erase & completely reset my phone. It worked miracles, everything worked better! Restoring my iPhone took some time including re-downloading apps, signing into accounts, arranging icons, etc.

I repeated this exercise today and found "wow!" the whole process is way easier than it used to be (particularly if restoring from a backup). I still had to re-download apps, but accounts logged in and even my text messages were restored. Plus I gained 5+ GB of free space. One word of caution, careful if you use your device for 2-step authentication, don't get yourself locked out of important accounts.

As you may have heard, Microsoft released Windows 10 today, July 29.

Windows 10 is a worthwhile upgrade (free for Windows 7/8/8.1 users), and you can do it yourself.
