Modeling detonation physics pushes CFD to its limits:

β€’ Extreme spatial scale differences
β€’ Shockwave interactions
β€’ Rapid pressure and density changes
β€’ Massive mesh refinement requirements

That’s why visualization matters.

With Tecplot, engineers can interrogate transient flow structures, adaptive mesh regions, and high-gradient phenomena to better understand complex explosion simulations.

Great example of advanced detonation modeling work from Nextfoam using anisotropic AMR and high-order numerical methods.

Researchers at the University of Virginia and Villanova University are studying the flow and odor topology of schooling fish to uncover novel interactions and sensing capabilities in biorobotic fish schools. In this Tecplot 360 animation, flow is visualized by the Q-criterion (blue iso-surface) and odor concentration dispersed by the body of the leader is visualized by normalized odor intensity (orange iso-surface). Our Tecplot User Conference in Japan was one for the books. Thank you to everyone who joined us in Tokyo, and an especially big thank you to our speakers:

- Dr. Kozo Fujii (Tokyo University of Science / JAXA) for opening with reflections on CFD visualization in a time of great change.

- Masatoshi Hirota, Xidong Hu, Prof. Taro Imamura, and Naoshi Kuratani for showcasing real-world applications from marine CFD to automotive aerodynamics.

- Dr. Philipp Bekemeyer (DLR) for closing with a compelling look at how AI/ML is transforming aerodynamic analysis.

Events like this only work because of a community that is curious, engaged, and passionate about what they do. We are already looking forward to the next one!

05/22/2026

Join Tecplot at 2026 in San Diego, June 9–12, to see how engineers are using our tools to speed up workflows, automate analysis, and gain a deeper understanding of their data.

Whether you're working on:
β€’ Aircraft design
β€’ Space systems
β€’ Turbomachinery
β€’ High-fidelity aerodynamic simulations

We are hosting a Tecplot User Conference in Japan on May 26, 2026, and registration is open.

The program brings together keynotes from Professor Kozo Fujii of JAXA and Dr. Philipp Bekemeyer of DLR, user presentations from Honda R&D, NMRI, JGC Corporation, and the University of Tokyo. There will also be a technical preview from our leadership covering what is next for Tecplot 360 and FieldView. The event wraps with a networking reception open to all attendees.

If you are based in Japan and want to connect with the CFD community, we hope to see you there.
