PSA: Don't fall for scammers! If you're not sure if a caller or email is legitimate, AKTS, LLC can help you discern legitimate calls from ones that will rob you blind. Don't let anyone access your personal information, electronic devices, etc. Depending on your computer usage, allowing someone to access your PC could be just like handing them your bank account info, SSN, and other sensitive information.
I just got a call from an IL phone number (847) 911-7786 from a man with a thick foreign accent who gave the name "Adam Woods," claiming to be with Windows. He said my dad (by 1st & last name) was the registered owner of a computer generating errors & downloading viruses. My dad has not been the registered owner of a computer in his life.
So I play along and "Adam" Directs me to the Windows Event Viewer, which can be full of errors (and scary if you don't know what you're looking at). He's playing this as the angle to show something is wrong with my PC.
He directs me to a website that installs remote access software when downloaded. This would've allowed him to remotely control my PC, copy/install personal files and information, etc. This is where I called him out and said I'm going to call my Sheriff's office because it was blatantly a scam. He apologizes and says "You can call whoever you want, this is just a free, 1-time courtesy to fix your computer," etc.
